Job Description: Quality Engineer – Panel Building & Control Automation

Position: Quality Engineer

Department: Panel Building & Control Automation

Location: Chennai, India

Reporting To: Quality Manager / BU Head

Role Purpose

The Quality Engineer will ensure that all electrical panels and control automation solutions meet BASE Automation's internal quality standards, customer requirements, and regulatory compliance. This role focuses on executing quality control processes, preparing quality documentation, and representing the company during internal/external audits and customer Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspection & Testing:
  • Perform in-process and final inspections of electrical control panels and automation systems.
  • Validate wiring, component mounting, safety compliance, and functional performance as per drawings and specifications.
  • Compliance Assurance:
  • Ensure adherence to 
    ISO 9001 QMS
     and relevant safety standards.
  • Support periodic internal audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively.
  • Customer Quality Interface:
  • Co-ordinate and represent BASE Automation during customer inspections, FATs, and external quality audits.
  • Handle quality-related queries and provide timely clarifications to customers.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
  • Prepare and maintain quality documentation including FAT reports, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), Quality Checklists, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Maintain traceability and quality records for projects.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Suggest and implement improvements in testing/inspection methods, standard checklists, and process controls.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (Design, Production, Projects) to address recurring quality issues and drive root cause analysis.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree/Diploma in 
    Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering
    .
  • 3–6 years of experience
     in Quality Control/Quality Assurance in electrical panel building or industrial automation.
  • Strong understanding of 
    ISO 9001 requirements
     and 
    safety compliance
     (wiring standards, grounding, protection, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience in electrical inspection and functional testing of panels & control systems.
  • Good communication skills to interact with customers during inspections and audits.
  • Proficiency in preparing and maintaining quality documentation (FAT reports, NCR, CAPA, etc.).
  • Basic knowledge of electrical drawings, schematics, and standards (IEC or equivalent).

     in manufacturing/automation sectors.
  • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
  • Team player with the ability to work proactively with production and project teams.
  • Knowledge of QA tools (5 Why, Fishbone, FMEA basics) is an added advantage.

Growth Path at BASE

  • With consistent performance, the role can evolve into Lead Quality Engineer or Quality Manager, overseeing larger audit responsibilities, quality systems upgrades, and mentoring junior engineers.
