Job Description: Manager / Assistant Manager - Purchase

Location: Sanwer - Indore (Injectable Plant SVP & LVP)

Position Overview

The Purchase/Procurement Manager will be responsible for managing and overseeing the procurement activities of the Injectable Manufacturing Plant (Small Volume Parenteral & Large Volume Parenteral). This role involves vendor development, strategic sourcing, material planning, cost optimization, and ensuring timely availability of Raw Materials, Packaging Materials, Engineering spares, and Services in compliance with pharmaceutical regulatory standards (cGMP, FDA, WHO, etc.).

Key Responsibilities

Sourcing & Procurement

• Develop and implement effective procurement strategies for RM, PM, consumables, engineering items, and services applicable for Injectable Manufacturing Plant.

• Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to ensure cost competitiveness, quality, and timely supply.

• Monitor supplier performance and maintain strong vendor relationships.

• Ensure compliance with pharma regulatory requirements for all purchased materials.

• Roll-out Standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure that the inflow of material must aligned with all aspects of SOPs

• Collaborate with QA for new vendor development and vendor qualification.

• Efficient management of material flow including tracking of materials in transit, import clearances and co-ordination with plants

Material Planning & Inventory Management-

• Evaluate the requirements of RM & PM (Imported and Domestic) and fine tune procurement with respect to on time delivery of material.

• Work closely with Production, QA, QC, and Planning departments to forecast material requirements.

• Optimize inventory levels to avoid stock-outs or overstocking.

• Coordinate with the warehouse team for smooth material receipts and issue processes.

Cost Control & Budgeting

• Drive cost reduction initiatives without compromising on quality and compliance.

• Ensure procurement within approved budgets and monitor purchase price variance.

• Prepare and present MIS reports on procurement cost, vendor performance, and material status.

Regulatory & Compliance

• Ensure procurement processes comply with cGMP, GxP, and statutory requirements.

• Maintain audit readiness for suppliers.

• Support documentation for regulatory inspections.

Team & Process Management

• Lead and mentor the procurement team to enhance efficiency and productivity.

• Implement SAP/ERP procurement modules for transparency and process automation.

• Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes.

Key Skills & Competencies -

• Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical procurement, especially SVP/LVP injectable plants.

• Understanding of raw materials (APIs, excipients), packaging materials (ampoules, vials, stoppers, cartons), and utilities/engineering spares.

• Excellent negotiation, vendor management, and cost optimization skills.

• Familiarity with SAP/ERP systems.

• Good knowledge of regulatory compliance and audit requirements.

• Leadership and team management skills.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualification & Experience

• B.Pharm / M.Pharm / B.Sc / M.Sc / MBA (Materials Management / Supply Chain).

• 05 – 08 years of experience in Procurement, with at least 4 years in Pharma Injectable Manufacturing (SVP/LVP).

Hands-on experience in vendor development, audits, SAP implementation, and regulatory compliance.
