Job brief:We, at The Hosteller, are seeking an experienced/seasoned

“legal/liaising officer or lawyer”

who has exposure to and experience in corporate and commercial (including corporate secretarial) work, contracts, litigation and claims handling. He/she should have extensively worked in the real-estate and hospitality sector and is now looking to join the largest backpacker hostel/hotel chain in India.

The candidate would be responsible directly for (i) overseeing and facilitating the development and administration of lease deeds, operating & other contracts, etc. and (ii) managing and resolving legal issues arising operationally, as appropriate and consistent with company policies.

Job responsibilities:Strong knowledge of statutory compliance, land acquisition, litigation, monitoring, legal, industrial relations, govt liaisoning, corporate affairs, government relations, operating licensing, etc.Draft, review, negotiate and advise on lease deeds, confidentiality agreements, MOUs/LOIs, term sheets, notices, other agreements, hotel operating licenses and ancillary contracts with potential hotel partnersExperience in sale agreements, deeds and abstracts of title for conversion from agriculture to non-agriculture land, title changes to determining real property ownershipsAdvise, collaborate and support the execution of various strategic projects involving key stakeholders in the business, including strategic partnerships, business innovation matters, and matters similar to guide and support the business teams from a legal perspectiveDraft, review, negotiate and advise the operations team on contracts and other legal matters arising from hotel operations, including ensuring compliance with legal and contractual requirements before hotel opening; act as a primary liaisonEnsure that contracts adhere to the company’s policies and standards and report material deviations for approval by the company’s managementOverseeing the administration of various documentation related to the uploading, updating and maintenance of contractual terms, change of terms, owner/licensee information and monitoring/tracking of contract status (such as licenses, lease deeds, etc.) to ensure accurate and timely tracking of key contract terms, conditions, changes, timelines, and other informationAssist in coordinating response and settlement of legal disputes (e.g., debt recovery, breach of contract, court litigation, arbitration) including, when appropriate, the selection and supervision of external counsel

This role may also be required to carry out additional tasks as directed by The Hosteller management that is not detailed in this job description.

Qualifications:Bachelor/master of law (LLM) from a reputable universityMin. 7 years of solid experience in corporate and commercial law (licensing/real estate sector/sub-registrar office/law firm) having worked with clientsHospitality industry-related legal experienceExcellent communication, negotiation & analytical skillsStrong research and verbal and written communication skillsFluent in English/Hindi (spoken and written)Hardworking, strong legal drafting and negotiation skills, strong communication skills, well-organized, detail-oriented
