Company Description: The company was created with the goal of making great Strategy and Operations support available to all early-stage businesses, regardless of their stage or funding level. There are about 800,000 new companies started in the UK each year and 62% of those will fail very quickly for reasons that can be avoided by implementing good strategic foundations from the start. A COO in an early-stage business has ownership of an average of 8 business functions, making them the most efficient and effective hire. However, the average base salary for a COO in an early-stage company sits somewhere between £100,000 to £190,000 a year.

To pay salaries at that level at an earlier-stage, a business needs capital. When investment is only available to certain demographics (somewhere between 1 and 2% of VC investment in the UK goes to minority-led businesses and about 80% of VC investment is given to companies based in the ‘golden triangle’ of innovation - London, Cambridge, and Oxford), we find ourselves in a situation where success only belongs to the few, not the many.

I fundamentally disagree with this and I’m working incredibly hard to bring a better balance to the UK startup ecosystem.

I have a broad suite of products and services at a variety of price points, from eBooks to courses, to Business Coaching, but the core of the business is Fractional COO services.

Delivered and priced by the hour (hence the business’s name), services are as flexible as each client needs them to be.

From designing and implementing clear business strategies using our proprietary 6-Point Framework to designing meetings and communication systems, to preparing for an injection of cash, The company’s main goal is to improve operational efficiency and give founding and leadership teams more time to focus on their own customers’ problems without worrying about the administration of the business.

Future of the company: The number one goal for the company at present is to secure additional Fractional COO clients. All marketing and sales activities are designed to lead to this goal.

Once at least 1 more client has been secured, attention will pivot to additional and/or more passive income streams. These include: More digital content, specifically A 5th book in the existing series, called ‘How To Beat The Competition’.

A digital product that’s designed to help Founders raise their first few investment rounds, made in collaboration with 1-2 other Fractionals. A course version of the best-selling book from the existing series ‘How To Write Your Strategy’. This will be a

combination of pre-recorded videos, live sessions, homework, and a Founders’ network.

A digital product to sell alongside How To Write Your Strategy. Launching all of the books onto Amazon. Creating a physical workbook to sell alongside How To Write Your Strategy. Increasing the footprint of the brand into other disciplines. Creating Strategy workshops that take an interactive approach to teaching and implementing a Strategy. Additional content creation, including monetised videos and written content. Facilitating investor introductions from both sides. About The Role: As the Founder's Associate/Assistant, you will be the right hand to the Founder, providing critical support across a wide range of tasks. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the startup world, working closely on strategic initiatives, operations, and day-to-day management and gaining experience across a broad range of different industries and company sizes. Responsibilities - What you’ll be doing: Administrative Support Research prospective clients and partners from a list of potential options. This will include things like: looking at how much revenue their company has generated, who has invested into their business, what things are they talking about online, what pain points are they solving for their customers, who is in the existing team. Drafting outreach emails to potential clients and partners so that I can send them out more frequently. Researching topics for upcoming content marketing, like reviewing famous business Strategies or looking at where companies went wrong.

Researching accelerators and incubators to make recommendations for new partnerships and to generate a list of resources to include in the fortnightly newsletter.

Setting up Zapier automations to link different tools together, like Mailchimp, Asana, Slack, Google Sheets.

Writing proposals for prospective clients (everything is done using templates, this is more of a copy-ad-past role than having to come up with client pitches). Updating the sales CRM with meeting notes and next steps. N.b. This doesn’t require experience with any fancy tools, it’s just Google Sheets and Asana.

In the future, we’ll hopefully look at using the Kindle editing tool to get all the books onto Amazon, as well as Project Management Assisting in planning and executing strategic projects, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met. We work heavily in Asana. Previous experience of the tool would be great, but isn’t essential. What’s more important is a desire to engage with the Asana processes that are crucial to the business and to be diligent about updating deadlines and sharing information in the right places.

Tracking progress on various initiatives and reporting on key metrics. Specifically, reviewing reports from Google Analytics to determine which bits of Sales & Marketing are/aren’t working in order to make recommendations for changes. N.b. This doesn’t require experience with Google Analytics, we’ll get someone to set up the tags and to set the reports to generate, this is more about the analysis.

Communication Managing relationships with some external contractors, like UpWork experts for small, one-off tasks. Ability to build relationships with Partners, specifically other Fractional Execs and Investors/Accelerators/Incubators. Requirements - What we’re looking for: I cannot emphasise enough how much attention to detail matters to me. Things like using the right fonts and the right colours, spell-checking and grammar-checking, updating deadlines, communicating via the right tool for the situation, and being on time for meetings. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal: this business will be built on relationships and reputation and we’re professional but approachable.

Ability to work independently and take initiative, whilst being keen to communicate. Discretion and the ability to handle confidential information. Adaptability: Comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment with the ability to pivot quickly. Problem-solving: A proactive approach to challenges, with the ability to think critically and find solutions. Entrepreneurial Spirit: An interest in startups, innovation, and the drive to contribute to the success of the company. Tools we require experience in : Asana Slack Mailchimp Buffer Canva Google Workspace Zapier Google Analytics & Search Console Wix Special Projects you'll be part of : Creating physical materials for workshops, like flashcards and branded items like stickers and planners. Writing content for the website if there’s something you’re particularly interested in.
