Amazon India is seeking a Tax Manager based in Bengaluru. This position will be responsible for providing in-house tax consulting to consumer business teams including liaising with the various stakeholders within Amazon and the global tax teams. The ideal candidate will be able to work with a high level of collegiality.
The candidate must possess the ability to think strategically while also engaging in day-to-day tactical details. The candidate must demonstrate a proven ability to identify and manage tax and execution risks. Candidate should have in-depth tax technical knowledge with experience evaluating and advising on international business initiatives, contemplated transactions and business proposals.
Key job responsibilities
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Analyzing business transactions and initiatives as it relates to wholesale/retail trading and e-commerce business initiatives, partnering with various teams and functioning as an in-house tax advisor.
- Researching Indian GST and other indirect tax issues working with taxing authorities and external advisers.
- Developing and evaluating GST and other indirect tax planning opportunities and strategies.
- Developing operational implementation work plans supporting tax planning opportunities.
- Maintaining and communicating knowledge of past, present and potential future indirect tax laws, regulations, rulings, procedures and court decisions.
- Continues monitoring of applicability of various regulatory requirements
- Work with compliance and tech teams ensure adequate information is being recorded in the systems as may be required for the purpose of Tax compliance, audit and litigation.
- This position interacts with the company’s U.S. and Indian business and support units, so any candidate should be able to work well with cross-functional teams.
A day in the life
This position will work closely with business partners and members of the tax department to structure and understand transactions, restructurings, and business initiatives to ensure we have documented tax technical advice on indirect tax impacts of such activities that can support our reporting, compliance, and on-going tax controversy analysis.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- •Degree in law or accounting - chartered/cost accountant (or equivalent) or graduate degree in taxation.
- •The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8+ years of indirect experience with public accounting firm, major law firm, and/or in industry, preferably a multinational corporation.
- •The job requires excellent written and oral communication skills and an understanding of indirect taxes. Knowledge of international tax issues is a plus.

- •Demonstrated ability to manage others, both directly and indirectly, and to operate effectively in a matrixed environment.
- •Detail-oriented individual who takes ownership of projects, is organized, possesses excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and is able to deliver on tight deadlines.
- •Highly motivated, hard-working, and able to work in a fast paced, informal, and often ambiguous environment.
- •Able to clearly and concisely interface with all levels of management
- •Able to analyze and review statutes, regulations, and case law and then extract data and make appropriate recommendations.
