Job Description: FTTH CAD Designer

Overview / Purpose Were seeking a skilled FTTH CAD Designer to support fiber-to-the-home projects, focusing on accurate network design, optical loss analysis, and infrastructure detailing. This role requires seamless collaboration with field teams, US-based project managers and ensures designs align with performance, cost, and installation requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • FTTH Network Design & CAD: Create detailed Outside Plant (OSP) designsincluding feeder, distribution, and drop segmentswith AutoCAD and GIS tools. Lay out structural design details such as trench cross-sections, pole lines, handhole placements, conduits, and vaults.
  • Loss Budget / Link Budget Calculation: Compute fiber link loss budgets factoring in fiber attenuation, number of splices, connector losses, splitters, and safety margins. Confirm system viability against equipment power budgets.
  • Field Data Integration: Collect and interpret field survey data—such as as-builts, GIS layers, utility records or site walkout data—and use it to update CAD designs. Incorporate real-world constraints into the design process.
  • PON Splitting & Infrastructure Plan: Diagram splitter configurations and integrate them into CAD layout plans.
  • Documentation & Deliverables: Produce permit plans, profile drawings, splice sheets, material bills, and construction-ready documentation. Maintain revision control and documentation for as-builts and records.
  • Collaboration & Coordination: Liaise with field technicians, OSP engineers, construction teams, and municipality contacts—ensuring design compliance with codes and permitting processes. Support construction administration and adjust designs based on field feedback.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Technical Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD and GIS platforms - ArcGIS. Experienced in calculating fiber loss budgets using standard formulas and components.
  • Field & Design Knowledge: Familiar with FTTH architectures, especially PON designs, splitter placement, and field installation techniques. Capable of interpreting topographic data and working with fielding personnel to align design and real-world conditions.
  • Soft Skills & Additional Expertise: Fluent communication in English, as you will be working under US-based project managers. Excellent communication, project coordination, and documentation management skills. Knowledge of local permitting, easements, and right-of-way regulations. Optional certifications: CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician), CPCT, or other fiber optics credentials.
