About Team: Target's Marketing Engineering Products team creates solutions for some of the most complicated omnichannel use-cases the retail sector has to offer. We create highly scalable, deeply multifaceted and cutting-edge distributed product platforms and applciations that help Target’s business offer the best-in-class guest experience on all channels like App, Website and Stores.
Whether it is developing applications in Roundel, which creates personalized ad campaigns for top brands to capture our guests’ attention across the internet, to establishing Target Circle, which is the loyalty program with the strategic intent of deepening relationships with every guest, to building and scaling centralization of guest data & algorithms across the enterprise with capabilities like capture and standardize guest data sources, guest identifiers, relationships and confidence levels, with the right privacy choices and sharing, to manage and deliver marketing 2D and 3D content which inspire guests to make a confident purchase, to drive clear and consistent store sign messaging to improve offer comprehension, to deliver personalized messages across multiple channels for best guest experience and loyalty… marketing engineering products team solves real life challenges at a scale and complexity that is only available at Target and continues to be a big part of Target’s growth.
The engineering platforms are built using kafka based event driven architecture which allows high-scale to process huge data volumes in integrated applications as well as disruptor patterns which help high performance inter-thread messaging. SQL and NoSQL databases are used based on the business use-cases along with RocksDB, embeddable persistent key-value stores which is used as back-end for very high-volume APIs or as an ephemeral datastore while processing billions of kafka messages a day

About You : As an engineering manager, you will lead a tech team delivering the engineering that powers the product. You will be responsible for managing the technical direction, architecture, and development process of our engineering projects. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including product management, design, and business teams to ensure alignment and successful delivery. You need to have keen insight into the technical architecture and design to deliver robust and scalable software applications. You constantly demonstrate the depth of your expertise by helping the team to solve engineering problems. You are passionate about the quality of software and balance between speed of delivering new features and robustness of the software components you and your team implement. You will understand the internals of distributed computing to help optimize the platform performance and complex resource management tradeoffs using algorithmic problem solving techniques. You will work closely with the tenant teams to understand the integration complexity and provide appropriate abstractions in the platform. You can handle operational issues with little or no oversight. You ensure the software quality and functional accuracy is maintained across the team. You are keen to learn the design and architecture of the product and participate in ceremonies that can influence both.
Participate in disaster recovery planning and disaster recovery activities and participate in providing direction for functional integration and regression testing and ability to automate testing. Adhere to change and incident management standards and expectations.

Requirements
4-year degree Proven experience of 12 years in software engineering, with a focus on full-stack development Demonstrated experience of 4 years in a leadership or management role, leading engineering teams to deliver complex software projects/products Demonstrates familiarity with current and emerging technologies in own scope of responsibility, and develops ability to apply these technologies Demonstrates and continuously builds upon domain-specific knowledge Strong technical knowledge in programming languages and frameworks such as Java, Kotlin, React, SpringBoot Understands the concepts of distributed programming and applies it to their domain Knowledge of associated technologies like Micronaut, Microfrontends is a plus. Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education
