Job Summary:
As a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher, you will be responsible for providing specialized instruction to students with a range of special educational needs. You will work with students who have ability variabilities and you will collaborate with other educators, parents, and support staff to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of each student. You will also monitor student progress, adjust instructional strategies as needed, and provide ongoing support to ensure student success.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct assessments to identify students' individual strengths and weaknesses, and develop appropriate educational plans in collaboration with parents, teachers, and support staff
Design and implement specialized instructional programs and strategies that address the specific learning needs of each student, including the use of assistive technology and accommodations
Utilize a variety of teaching methods and techniques to help students achieve their learning goals, and provide differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of each student
Monitor and track student progress through regular assessments and adjust instructional strategies as needed to ensure student success
Collaborate with parents, teachers, and support staff to develop and implement transition plans for students moving from one grade level to the next or from school to post-secondary education or employment
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, and behavior, and communicate regularly with parents, teachers, and support staff
Participate in professional development activities to stay current on best practices in special education and to improve instructional skills and knowledge
Adhere to ethical and professional standards as outlined by state and federal laws and regulations
Provide support to classroom teachers in designing and implementing appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with special educational needs
Work closely with support staff, such as educational psychologists and speech and language therapists, to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive approach to meeting the needs of students with special educational needs
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or related field
State certification in Special Education
Experience working with students with special educational needs in a school setting
Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices
Ability to design and implement effective instructional programs and strategies
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
Ability to work effectively with diverse students, families, and staff members
Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development activities
