About the Role

We are looking for an experienced AI/ML Lead Engineer to take full ownership of AI engineering for global client projects (80%) and CellVerse product development (20%). This is a contract-based role where you will architect, design, and deliver scalable AI systems, while leading and mentoring a small team of developers. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader with deep expertise in LLMs, RAG systems, vector databases, and scalable backend engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead AI/ML engineering for client projects and internal product development.
  • Architect and design scalable AI systems from conception to production.
  • Build production-ready AI solutions using LLMs, RAG systems, and vector databases.
  • Implement and optimize ML pipelines with PyTorch and transformers.
  • Develop high-performance APIs and microservices using FastAPI and AWS.
  • Mentor and guide junior developers while remaining hands-on with code.
  • Take full ownership of system architecture and technical implementation.
  • Ship code rapidly in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
  • Collaborate with distributed teams to deliver cutting-edge AI solutions.

Required Technical Skills

  • LLM Expertise: Deep understanding of large language models (LLMs) internals.
  • LLM APIs: Advanced experience with OpenAI GPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.
  • RAG Systems: Proven experience in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
  • Vector Databases: Hands-on with similarity search and vector storage.
  • ML/DL: Strong foundation in machine learning & deep learning.
  • Frameworks: Expert-level PyTorch, Transformers, neural networks.
  • Backend Development: Advanced FastAPI and scalable API design.
  • Cloud: Extensive AWS experience with production deployments.
  • Containerization: Docker for development & deployment.
  • Databases: OpenSearch, DynamoDB, S3 for scalable data pipelines.
  • Programming: Expert Python skills with async programming.
  • System Design: Strong ability to architect distributed systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years in AI/ML engineering.
  • At least 1+ year in a technical lead or architect role.
  • Proven experience in shipping AI products to production.
  • Strong system design and architecture skills.
  • Experience leading and mentoring developers.
  • Self-starter with ownership of technical decisions.
  • Ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for remote collaboration.
  • Passion for staying ahead in AI/ML technologies.
