Your Job
Ensures the implementation of Product Development crop strategy in the region and manages the flawless coordination of Product Development processes, for the crops of responsibility, in coordination with team of local Specialists Product Development and Trial Technicians. Offers regional vision to detect market opportunities and contribute to crop strategy. Acts as the connection of the market requirements and breeding to guide pipeline development efforts. Connects to relevant stakeholders in M&S and R&D to contribute to pipeline management and crop assortment optimization. Steers the successful development of varieties and growing concepts in the region to ensure successful introductions through accurate elevations decisions.
Main Areas of Responsibilities and Key Activities
- Understand and communicate the crop strategy: ‘Principal Specialist – Product Development’ needs to understand and cascade the vision and strategy of the crop (Vista, Hybrid Profile, etc) to the Regional Team. (Trial Specialists, Sales, R&D).
- Clear and technically solid elevation proposals: based on good experimental design, quality data, sound analysis, deep market understanding and collaboration with Crop Team.
- Efficient and flawless implementation of Product Development processes:
- Trial Plan: Focus on efficient trial design and execution and complete implementation of Regional Trial Plan as designed.
- Elevation process: RPDS Prepare, coordinate and execute all the procedures in the Elevation varieties (Elevation Process) from screening towards Commercial Status. RPDS needs to analyse, process, and deliver the Trial data and Information on time and draw conclusions on variety and seed treatment performance (Trial 1 Plan, Trial 2 Plan, Evaluation forms).
- Variety Registration and IP protection: RPDS in coordination with PVP specialist to initiate and propose variety registration and application for plant breeder rights and naming of promising trial varieties to protect the Nunhems crops interest.
- Collect info and understand well markets and their evolution: needs to identify and communicate the Market Trends (Actively look for and understand future market development in the region) and connect it to needed traits.
- Orientate R&D efforts: needs to be able to orient the breeding program for the Breeding Segments and Market Segments of the Region. Collaborating with breeders, RCL at local scale to providing clarity to R&D on the objectives to pursue (Hybrid Profiles) while being open for opportunities and ideas that could lead to advantages in the market. (involvement from Scr2).
- Collaboration with Trial Team: RPDS needs to liaise with TL Trial and train the Trial Specialists in the execution of trial plan, protocols and variety assessment and motivate them towards professionalism and teamwork, making them feel part of PD team.
- Support to and collaboration with M&S. RPDS needs to support the sales team by means of advice and training for the introduction of new Varieties and Concepts for the market and with customers (including handling of Complaints).
- Be very engaged in the introduction strategies, making and supporting Growing Concepts when needed.
- Support overall PD agenda and objectives: like the drive towards Excellence and Digitalization, process alignment, naming and Protocol alignment within the crop regions and with other functions (R&D, Operations), and contributing to a higher-level PD by sharing best practices among crops and providing technical support, peer-coaching and advise to other RPDS when needed upon request of the RHPD
Your profile
- Bachelor or master’s degree in agriculture with 6 to 8 years of relevant experience
- English language: fluent;
- Technical and agronomical skills: Solid understanding of PD process, plant behaviour, agronomic technology, genetics.
- Professionalism and organization: A desire for excellence in process and ability to organize it.
- Analytical skills: To analyze and evaluate data. (understanding of statistical significance and ability to use calculations and spreadsheets).
- Influential: versus Trial Specialist and Sales Specialist. Convince and generate trust. Be clear and solid in the technical part of elevations.
- Versatile communicator and team player: Actively seek to involve others and to engage in positive discussions. Use always the strength of the team.
- Owner of PD decisions: Assertive, not afraid to disappoint others and stand his/her ground when it is rational.
- Customer oriented: Approach supporting customers on the technical part while not replacing the Sales Specialist role.
