Role Summary
The Head of Taxation is responsible for leading & managing all aspects of tax planning, compliance & reporting for the organization. This role plays a critical role in ensuring tax efficiency, minimizing tax risks & ensuring compliance with tax laws & regulations. The Head of Taxation will collaborate with internal teams, external advisors, & tax authorities to develop & execute tax strategies that align with the company's goals & objectives.
As a highly experienced tax executive you will provide leadership and expertise on the global scale in the following areas:
- Corporate tax
- Indirect tax
- Transfer pricing
- Contribution to optimization of corporate structure including group simplification and inter-company balance simplification
Job Context & Challenges
Multiple International entities, the role of Head Taxation is critical to ensure that organization is on the right side of the law with all the requisite compliances.
- Managing complete tax portfolio of the business (direct & indirect taxes)
- Formulating tax policies & tax planning of the business
- Complete tax compliance of the business
- Handling of all direct & indirect tax matters on day-to-day basis
- Filing of all direct & indirect tax returns (monthly, quarterly, & annual tax returns)
- Handling tax assessments, queries, appeals etc. & close monitoring of all the open tax matters (both direct & indirect tax)
- Handling various appeals at different assessment levels
- Monitor transfer Pricing policies for Group and subsidiaries and documentation
- Close coordination with various tax consultants & with internal teams/statutory auditors
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop & execute tax planning strategies to optimize the company's tax position while ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws & regulations across all the global entities
Analyze the impact of tax legislation & regulations on the organization & make recommendations for necessary adjustments.
Oversee all tax compliance activities, including the preparation & filing of tax returns (Profit Tax (income tax), GST, VAT, withholding tax, USAC, SUT etc.).
Monitor changes in tax laws & regulations & assess their impact on the company's tax compliance requirements.
Develop & implement processes & controls to ensure accurate & timely tax filings.
Coordinate & manage tax audits conducted by tax authorities or external auditors.
Respond to tax inquiries & notices from tax authorities & ensure timely & accurate resolution of any disputes.
Collaborate with external tax advisors and finance teams to address tax-related issues & minimize tax risks.
Provide insights & recommendations to senior management on emerging tax issues & opportunities.
Identify tax inefficiencies and promote optimization initiatives.
Maintain 100% tax compliance in all jurisdictions where the group is present, including statutory filing, and archiving of returns.
Fully compliant with e-filings applicable in various countries. Be on top of the GST refund claim initiatives on the export services.
Advise on and drive development of systems, tools and processes improvements to reduce efforts on compliance activities while maintaining financial control and accuracy of submissions.
Be the ultimate point of expertise for all direct and indirect tax elements of the P&L and Balance Sheet.
Supply tax provisions and supporting disclosures in support of half yearly and year end reporting processes, including audit queries. Maintain Accounting accuracies of all Tax related transactions and balances.
Lead Transfer Pricing assessments, maintain appropriate supporting documentation including quarterly transfer pricing charges.
Liaise and manage the working relationship with tax authorities during routine audits and ad hoc enquiries, including preparation of correspondence to resolve queries, participation in meetings and proactive regular communications to all interested stakeholders.
Manage, develop and motivate Tax team (currently 3 people) on day-today basis.
Proactively contribute to the Group-wide strategic initiatives and objectives.
Skills & Qualification
Chartered Accountant with 15-25 years of experience.
Experience with multi-jurisdictional direct and indirect tax either as head of Tax department of the group or as a Deputy head.
Sound knowledge of international tax, particularly in EU (including UK), Middle East, US.
Experience in driving international tax-focused projects.
Exceptional communicator able to deliver impactful messages to multi-functional. community of colleagues.
Ability to work within and across teams, managing different priorities and expectations.
Ethical team player with good influencing skills and the ability to communicate complex tax matters to a non-tax audience.
Confident with offering constructive advice to internal stakeholders in respect of tax risk and compliance.
