Our mission is to make foundational learning accessible, affordable, and outcome-driven for every child.We are now building a suite of interactive, browser-based educational games that make learning English exciting, rewarding, and effective.If you’re a technically strong game developer who wants to bring ideas to life and make a real impact in education — we’d love to work with you.Position OverviewWe are seeking a Game Developer with solid technical knowledge of web-based game development.You will work closely with our game designer and content team to build interactive, 2 D puzzle and assessment games for children, integrated directly into our web platform.This role offers creative freedom, ownership, and the opportunity to help shape Spellzee’s upcoming game-based learning ecosystem.Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and deploy 2 D web-based educational games using HTML5, Java Script, and Phaser (or similar frameworks).- Collaborate with the game designer to translate storyboards, art, and game mechanics into interactive playable experiences.- Implement and optimize animations, sounds, physics, and collisions for smooth gameplay.- Ensure games are responsive and optimized for browsers on desktop, tablet, and mobile.- Integrate APIs and Firebase for saving scores, progress, and analytics.- Maintain clean, modular, and reusable code structures for scalability.- Debug, test, and continuously improve performance, usability, and user experience.- Work with designers to integrate and optimize sprites, atlases, and other assets.Required Technical SkillsLanguages & Core Technologies- Proficiency in Java Script (ES6+), HTML5 Canvas, and CSS3.- Strong command of game loops, rendering, and event handling.- Understanding of collision detection, physics, and frame optimization.Frameworks & Engines- Hands-on experience with Phaser.js (preferred) or Godot (HTML export).- Knowledge of Pixi.js, Construct 3, or similar web-based 2 D engines is a plus.Backend & Data- Experience integrating with Firebase / Supabase / REST APIs for game data and analytics.- Familiarity with Node.js / Express is an advantage.Audio & Animation- Working knowledge of Howler.js or HTML5 Audio for sound effects.- Understanding of sprite sheets, frame-based animation, and skeletal animation tools like Spine or Dragon Bones.Build & Deployment Tools- Experience using Git / Git Hub for version control.- Familiarity with Webpack / Vite / Parcel for game bundling and optimization.- Comfortable deploying on Netlify / Vercel / AWS S3.Optimization & Testing- Performance profiling using Chrome Dev Tools / Lighthouse.- Asset management (compression, lazy loading, and preloading).- Responsive layout and performance testing across devices.Preferred Skills- Experience embedding games into React / Next.js environments.- Familiarity with Type Script for structured game development.- Exposure to Google Analytics / Firebase Analytics for gameplay insights.- Understanding of UI/UX principles for children’s interfaces (large tap zones, vibrant colors, instant feedback).- Optional: Basic familiarity with speech synthesis or recognition APIs (for phonics / reading-based games).Who You Are- A passionate and self-motivated developer who enjoys building interactive experiences.- Excited about combining technology + education + creativity.- Capable of taking full ownership of projects and delivering independently.- Eager to work in a fast-paced, innovation-driven startup where your work has visible impact.Why Join Spellzee- Build real products used by hundreds of children every week.- Work directly with the founding team and game designer — flat hierarchy, fast execution.- Freedom to experiment with new technologies and game mechanics.- Opportunity to build your portfolio of published educational games.- Be part of a mission-driven company changing how kids learn
