About Global Architecture and Engagement

The Global Architecture team is a group of architects and principal engineers who are responsible for the architecture of all our systems, both internal-facing and external. We craft North Star architectures to help the company achieve its goals, and work directly with engineering, product, data, and project management teams to iteratively transition our existing systems to match those North Star visions.

The Global Architecture team is grouped into domains that are focused on specific areas of the business. One of those areas, the Brand domain, is specifically focused on helping over 20 brands at Conde Nast develop new features to achieve their customer-focused goals. The Brand Domain has an opening for an Associate Principal Engineer to focus on everything related to Engagement. There are both Product and Engineering teams that are also dedicated to working on Engagement-related initiatives, so this role will pair closely with those teams to build products that capture the future vision of Conde Nast.

Many of our largest brands are interested in driving higher Engagement, including Vogue, The New Yorker, Bon Appetit, Vanity Fair, GQ, and Architectural Digest. This role will have the ability to shape and influence projects across all of those brands, and more.

The Role

Condé Nast is looking for an associate principal engineer to join the Global Architecture team and help us deliver capabilities that will drive higher Engagement across our brands. This role has two main functions:

  • As part of the Principal Engineering team, work collaboratively with other team members to define our future state architectures and engineering culture. What technologies should we focus on? What technical objectives should we be trying to achieve? And how do we socialize those goals and mentor the rest of the team so they can achieve those goals?
  • Work with Engagement Engineering and Product Teams to help define their roadmaps and design technology solutions for the teams to implement, balancing the short-term deliverables required by the business against the long-term strategic objectives we have for the organization

You will be a key contributor to our long-term strategies, both in terms of our technical architectures as well as our engineering culture. At the same time, we need someone who can balance those long-term strategic goals with short-term delivery deadlines to help define solutions for the Engagement Engineering and Product teams. You will work directly with those teams to define the roadmaps and design the technical solutions for new features that will reach millions of users every month. You will be seen as a technical leader for those teams.

You will also be working alongside international colleagues across the US, Europe, India, and East Asia. We strongly emphasize cross-functional working through partnering directly with Product, Data, Design, UX and Delivery.

Role responsibilities

• Subject matter expertise in Conde Nast technology stack, other developers will look to you as an authority on how to utilize our technologies

* Collaborate with Product, Business, Architecture, and Data team stakeholders to design the appropriate solution for our needs

• Lead projects from ideation to execution to maintenance

• Mentor other engineers in engineering best practices, including architecture and design patterns

• Collaborate with the broader engineering group on new ideas or improving existing ones

• Identify and improve code and usability performance issues

• Participate in design and code reviews

• Helping us grow and expand our engineering teams

About you

• Bachelor's degree in CS or related experience

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

• Experience working with designing and deploying production-grade GraphQL APIs

• In-depth knowledge of AWS Cloud infrastructure

• Strong data modeling skills (knowledge of Domain-driven Design preferred)

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills

• Strong sense of building products for other application engineers and experience building

platforms for other teams

• Seen technical projects throughout the entire development lifecycle, from ideation through

execution and maintenance

• Expert level fluency in at least 1 programing language

• Experience with event sourcing paradigms and patterns

• Eager to learn about new technologies and implementing these ideas in a production

environment
