About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Healthcare Subject Matter Expert (SME) with deep experience in EHR system integration , clinical data extraction/writing , and application development and deployment across various EHR platforms. The ideal candidate will bring a strong mix of clinical understanding, interoperability standards, and hands-on knowledge of building and publishing apps within EHR ecosystems. You will play a key role in delivering secure, scalable, and standards-compliant solutions that bridge healthcare systems and technology platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as SME for integration projects across major EHR platforms (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Allscripts, Meditech, eClinicalWorks).
• Design and validate workflows for clinical data extraction, transformation, and writing using:
• HL7 v2/v3 , FHIR (R4) , CDA/CCD
• X12 , custom APIs , and EHR-specific integration frameworks
• Develop and support applications that integrate with EHRs, including:
• SMART on FHIR app development
• App registration, configuration, and publishing in EHR app galleries or developer ecosystems
• Work directly with vendor-specific developer platforms such as:
• Epic App Orchard
• Cerner CODE Console
• Allscripts Developer Portal
• Athenahealth Marketplace
• eClinicalWorks API and Partner Programs
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and compliance teams to define technical requirements and ensure data security, privacy, and HIPAA compliance.
• Provide clinical context and domain expertise to interpret raw data from EHRs and ensure accurate transformation into standardized formats (e.g., OMOP, FHIR resources).
• Support testing, certification, and go-live readiness of EHR-integrated apps and data pipelines.
• Troubleshoot and resolve interface, authentication, and data consistency issues related to EHR integrations and application deployment.
• Guide the development and validation of middleware, APIs, and ETL pipelines that support clinical data ingestion and export.
• Ensure integration solutions align with HIPAA, HITECH, and other relevant data privacy and security regulations.
• Act as a liaison between clinical stakeholders, technical teams, and integration partners to ensure alignment of needs and solutions.
• Support testing, validation, and troubleshooting of integration points and EHR interfaces.

Required Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in EHR integration, clinical informatics, or health IT.
• Hands-on experience with at least two major EHR platforms (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Allscripts).
• Strong knowledge of EHR-supported interfaces and APIs , including:
• Epic Interconnect, Epic Bridges , FHIR APIs
• Cerner Ignite APIs and Millennium Objects
• Allscripts Unity and FHIR APIs
• Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, or other interface engines
• Proven experience in building, registering, and publishing EHR-integrated applications , including:
• SMART on FHIR / OAuth2-based workflows
• Developer console setup and app configuration
• App certification processes and security reviews
• In-depth knowledge of EHR-supported interfaces and integration engines :
• HL7 v2/v3, FHIR (R4), CDA/CCD
• RESTful and SOAP-based APIs
• Interface engines (e.g., Mirth, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf)
• Vendor-specific APIs (Epic Interconnect, Cerner FHIR, etc.)
• Familiarity with clinical data standards and vocabularies (SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10, CPT).
• Strong understanding of HIPAA, HITECH, and secure healthcare data exchange.
• Effective communication skills with technical and clinical stakeholders.
• Experience in mapping structured/unstructured EHR data into interoperable formats.
• Familiarity with clinical terminologies such as SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10, CPT
• Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional technical teams.
• Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to clinical stakeholders and vice versa.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Degree or certification in Clinical Informatics, Health Information Technology, or related field.
• Experience with tools like Redox, Health Gorilla, Smile CDR, or InterSystems HealthShare.
• Exposure to cloud-based healthcare architecture (e.g., AWS HealthLake, Azure Health Data Services).
• Familiarity with data modeling approaches (OMOP CDM, FHIR profiles, US Core).
