Senior Database Administrator

Job Description Role Summary As a Senior Database Administrator at CAMP, you will safeguard the reliability, performance, and availability of mission-critical Oracle databases that power our software-as-a-service products in the Business Aviation ecosystem. You will manage very large databases on a three-node Exadata cluster with primary and disaster recovery sites, operate Oracle GoldenGate replication at scale, and guide our evolution from Oracle 19c toward future Oracle releases (including 23ai). You will partner closely with engineering, operations, and security to keep data secure and fast, support multiple environments across multiple teams, and prepare the platform for continued adoption of Amazon Web Services. What You Will Do ·         Protect and recover data: Design and operate strategies for archiving, backups, point-in-time and full recovery; run regular restore drills; maintain clear recovery runbooks. ·         Replicate, clone, import/export, and refresh: Configure, monitor, and tune Oracle GoldenGate for real-time replication; design and execute cloning and environment refreshes; manage import/export workflows (for example, Data Pump) across development, test, staging, and production. ·         Design and optimize the physical layer: Create and tune tables, views, and indexes to support normalized schemas and dimensional models; recommend schema enhancements based on workload patterns and access methods. ·         Performance engineering: Monitor and tune Oracle instances and Exadata components for optimal performance (Structured Query Language plan analysis, indexing strategies, memory and storage parameters); provide clear recommendations and implement fixes with application teams. ·         Build and operate at scale: Design, test, and optimize core Oracle components; plan capacity and storage growth; keep primary and disaster recovery environments healthy and in sync. ·         Harden and govern: Implement and audit security, role-based access, and encryption; enforce organizational standards and data-handling policies across environments. ·         Install, patch, and upgrade: Plan and execute software installation and patching (including OPatch), database creation and configuration, and version upgrades with minimal downtime; contribute to the roadmap toward newer Oracle releases. ·         Engineer reliable operations: Develop and maintain utilities and automation (for example, shell or Python) for object migrations, integrity checks, and performance monitoring; instrument actionable alerts and dashboards. ·         Support and accountability: Provide proactive monitoring and 24×7 on-call coverage for critical incidents; perform root-cause analysis and drive preventive actions; participate in post-incident reviews. ·         Cross-functional partnership: Collaborate with application engineers on query tuning and data-access patterns, with platform teams on build and release pipelines, and with data-integration teams on source/target replication needs. Requirements Technical Skills Must Have ·         Expert administration of Oracle 19c in large, mission-critical environments and hands-on management of Exadata clusters. ·         High-availability and disaster-recovery design and operations (for example, Oracle Data Guard or equivalent approaches). ·         Deep experience with Oracle GoldenGate configuration, monitoring, conflict handling, and performance tuning. ·         Strong physical design skills: schema modeling, partitioning strategies, index and statistics management for transactional and analytical workloads. ·         Proven performance tuning across the stack: Structured Query Language plan analysis, session and wait diagnostics, memory and storage configuration, and workload-driven optimization. ·         Backup and recovery expertise (including Oracle Recovery Manager) with documented and tested procedures. ·         Installation, patching, and upgrade experience (including OPatch), plus database creation and environment provisioning at scale. ·         Security and governance: role and privilege design, encryption, auditing, and safe data refreshes for lower environments. ·         Scripting and automation for administration and monitoring (for example, shell or Python). ·         Comfortable operating across multiple environments and teams with clear change control and documentation. Good to Have ·         Exposure to Fivetran and HVR (High Volume Replication) for modern data ‑ movement patterns. ·         Experience with Amazon Web Services for networking, storage, monitoring, and disaster-recovery options; familiarity with hybrid and migration patterns. ·         Understanding of how database platforms support self-contained component architectures in software-as-a-service products, and how search and analytics workloads influence data modeling and retention. ·         Familiarity with enterprise observability tools and database-focused automation frameworks. Qualifications ·         Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. ·         8–12 years as an Oracle database administrator with sustained responsibility for large, high-availability production systems. ·         Demonstrated success delivering upgrades, patching, and migrations with minimal downtime and clear rollback plans. ·         Strong communication skills with proactive status and risk updates; ability to write clear runbooks and decision records. ·         Ownership mindset, calm under pressure, and commitment to a “no surprises” culture.
