Comics Art Specialist

Job Summary:As a Comics Art Specialist, you will be responsible for creating visually compelling promotional artwork for comic books and graphic novels released by Pocket Comics. If you are comfortable with or can adapt to all elements of comic design - be it character development, line art or coloring - this is the role for you.

You will work closely with writers, editors, and other artists to bring stories to life through dynamic illustrations and designs. This role requires a deep understanding of comic book storytelling techniques, strong artistic skills, and proficiency in digital art tools.

Responsibilities:Conceptualize and develop art that effectively communicates the narrative and visual style of comic book projectsCollaborate with writers and editors to understand the story, characters, and themes, and translate them into visual storytelling elementsCreate character designs, environments, and key moments that enhance the overall narrative and engage readersProduce pencil sketches, inked illustrations, and colored artwork using both traditional and digital techniquesMaintain consistency in character appearances, settings, and visual style throughout the comic series or graphic novelRevise and refine artwork based on feedback from editors, writers, and other stakeholdersKeep up-to-date with trends and innovations in comic book art, illustration techniques, and digital art toolsAssist in the development of promotional materials, covers, and other visual assets related to comic book projectsCollaborate with other artists, including color artists and lettering artists, to ensure the final product meets quality standards and deadlinesContribute to the creative process by generating ideas, brainstorming concepts, and providing artistic input during story development

Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Illustration, Graphic Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).Proven experience as a comic book artist or illustrator, with a portfolio demonstrating strong artistic skills and a thorough understanding of comic book storytelling conventions.Proficiency in digital art software such as Adobe Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, or Procreate, as well as traditional drawing and inking techniques.Knowledge of 3D modeling software and techniques, such as ZBrush or Maya, for creating reference materials or visualizing complex scenes would be an advantageExcellent drawing, composition, and perspective skills, with the ability to convey emotion, action, and storytelling through visualsFamiliarity with comic book scripting and storytelling techniques, including panel layouts, pacing, and visual storytelling devicesStrong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and take direction from writers and editors.Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality artwork on time and within budget.Knowledge of comic book history, genres, and trends, with a passion for storytelling through sequential art and ability to adapt to different artistic styles and genresFlexibility to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a deadline-driven creative environment.A positive attitude, open-mindedness, and a willingness to learn and grow as an artistPreferred Qualifications:Experience working in the comic book industry or related fields, such as animation, illustration, or concept art.Experience with motion comics, webcomics, or other digital storytelling formats.Knowledge of print production processes, color theory, and typography as they relate to comic book design and productionExperience with social media platforms and online communities for sharing artwork, engaging with fans, and promoting comic book projectsA passion for comics and a deep appreciation for the medium’s potential to entertain, inspire, and provoke thought
