Job Summary

An Echo Technologist is responsible for performing echocardiograms, a non-invasive procedure that utilizes ultrasound technology to assess the structure and function of the heart. Working within the hospital's diagnostic imaging department or cardiology unit, the Echo Technologist collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate diagnostic information essential for patient care.

Role & responsibilities

Performing Echocardiograms: Utilize ultrasound equipment to capture images of the heart's chambers, valves, and blood vessels. Conduct various types of echocardiograms, including transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) and trans esophageal echocardiograms (TEE), as ordered by physicians

Patient Preparation: Educate patients about the procedure, answer questions, and ensure their comfort and safety throughout the examination. Position patients appropriately to obtain clear images and optimize the diagnostic quality of the echocardiogram.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring its proper functionality and calibration. Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise and perform routine maintenance tasks to uphold equipment performance standards.

Image Interpretation: Capture high-quality echocardiographic images and recordings for analysis by cardiologists and other physicians. Recognize normal and abnormal cardiac structures and functions, documenting findings accurately for diagnostic purposes.

Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate closely with cardiologists, physicians, and other healthcare team members to interpret findings, discuss patient cases, and formulate treatment plans. Communicate effectively with patients, explaining results and assisting in their understanding of cardiac health.

Documentation and Record-keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of echocardiograms performed, patient demographics, and clinical information. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital policies regarding medical record documentation and confidentiality.

Quality Assurance: Adhere to established protocols and standards for echocardiography procedures to ensure consistent and reliable results. Participate in quality assurance activities, such as image review and quality control assessments, to uphold the highest standards of patient care and safety.
