About the Role


We are seeking an experienced Import and Export Manager with over 10 years of expertise in international trade and supply chain management, specifically in the agricultural and food product sector. This role focuses on overseeing the end-to-end process of sourcing, processing, and global trade of jaggery from the western regions of Maharashtra. A key responsibility will be to identify and source international buyers for jaggery, expanding its presence in global markets. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and a proven track record in managing import/export operations.


Key Responsibilities


Import and Export Management


  • Develop and execute global import/export strategies for jaggery to expand market reach.
  • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, documentation, and customs requirements.
  • Coordinate with international buyers, freight forwarders, and customs agents to streamline the export process.
  • Manage financial aspects of trade, including pricing, payment terms, and trade finance instruments like letters of credit.
  • Stay updated with global trade policies and market trends affecting jaggery exports.


Supply Chain and Logistics Management


  • Plan and manage logistics for jaggery shipments to ensure cost efficiency and timely delivery.
  • Collaborate with transport providers and warehouse teams to optimize supply chain operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, shipments, and delivery schedules.
  • Ensure seamless coordination between local producers, processing units, and export operations.


Quality Assurance and Compliance


  • Establish and enforce quality control measures for jaggery production and packaging.
  • Ensure compliance with international food safety standards, certifications, and labeling requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to uphold product quality and safety.


Market Development and Client Relations


  • Identify new export markets and establish strong relationships with international buyers and distributors.
  • Source international buyers for jaggery by promoting its unique qualities and health benefits.
  • Conduct market research to understand pricing trends, consumer preferences, and competition in the global jaggery market.
  • Represent the company at trade fairs, exhibitions, and buyer-seller meets to promote Maharashtra’s jaggery heritage.


Team Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement


  • Lead and train a team to manage import/export operations efficiently.
  • Collaborate with jaggery cooperatives, local farmers, and suppliers to ensure a consistent supply chain.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with logistics providers, customs officials, and other stakeholders.


Qualifications and Skills


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Business, Agriculture, Supply Chain Management, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in import/export management, preferably in agricultural or food products.
  • Deep knowledge of jaggery quality standards and export procedures.
  • Strong understanding of international trade laws, documentation, and logistics.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage export strategies and build client relationships.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, MS Office, and supply chain software.
  • Fluency in Marathi, Hindi, and English.

  • Knowledge of organic and traditional jaggery production techniques.
  • Familiarity with Maharashtra’s agricultural ecosystem and jaggery industry.
