Based on our Continued growth, we currently have an exciting opportunity for Training Counsellor to join our team who will be reporting to Head of Training . The ideal candidate should have prior experience supporting individuals with disabilities and demonstrate exceptional networking capabilities.

 

The MOST IMPORTANT aspect of this job is that this position requires someone who is highly service oriented and interested in helping to bring a positive difference in the life of others.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

As Lead Counsellor, you will be responsible for the following:

 

  • Counsel Vision-Aid students across all different demographics.
  • Lead, Guide and Counsel Students in such areas including Career/job opportunities, learning new skills, life skills, etc.
  • Guide and continuously motivate students who are in need and help keep their spirits high
  • Provide Psychological counselling to the best possible to those students who go through depression or other psychological ailments and help motivate them
  • Counsel at least 70 - 80 Students in a month
  • Create Case diaries for every student counselled and keep them updated at all times
  • Create mechanism to measure the impact of counselling on students mental and other well-being
  • Create scalable processes and models to address specific needs of students with visual disability
  • Build a strong and scalable counselling function in Vision-Aid
  • Find ways and means to arrest student drop-outs from training programs
  • Submit a monthly report to Vision-Aid management on the progress made with the Counselling function including the # of students counselled, results/outcomes delivered, case diaries, etc.


Qualification/Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Social Work, counselling Psychology, or B.Ed in Special Education.
  • Minimum of 3 years as a counsellor, with experience working with people with disabilities, preferably the visually impaired

 

Skills Required:

 

  • Excellent Interpersonal skills; Ability to easily connect with the beneficiary
  • Good listening skills
  • Empathy: Someone who is able to understand the beneficiaries problem from their perspective is an essential skill.
  • Excellent English communication (both written & oral) and interpersonal skills; Those who can speak Tamil, Telugu and/or Hindi will be given preference
  • Excellent networking skills.

Vision-Aid India is a small but dynamic and growing NGO with a team currently comprising around 50+ staff members.  

 

Vision-Aid provides rehabilitation and skill based training for the visually impaired through its network of resource centers across India.

 

Currently, Vision-Aid offers over 15 training programs, impacting approximately 1,000 visually impaired participants annually. Central to the success of these programs is our commitment to personalized support through targeted counselling, which allows us to understand our students’ unique needs and aid in their personal and professional development.
