A Tekla Steel Detailer is responsible for creating detailed 3D models and drawings for the fabrication and erection of steel structures using Tekla Structures, a Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. The role involves working closely with structural engineers, fabricators, and contractors to ensure that the design is accurate and ready for construction.


Job Description for a Tekla Steel Detailer:


Key Responsibilities:

3D Modeling & Detailing:

  • Create detailed 3D models of steel structures based on architectural and structural drawings.
  • Produce accurate fabrication drawings, including shop drawings, assembly drawings, and part drawings.
  • Prepare detailed steel connection drawings, including bolts, welds, and connections, as per project requirements.


Coordination with Stakeholders:

  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other construction professionals to resolve design and technical issues.
  • Coordinate with fabrication teams to ensure that the detailing aligns with the manufacturing process and construction schedules.
  • Attend design and coordination meetings to provide input and receive feedback on model accuracy.


BOM (Bill of Materials) Generation:

  • Create and update accurate material lists for procurement, ensuring that all components are detailed and consistent with the model.
  • Verify the accuracy of material quantities and dimensions before submission to the procurement or fabrication team.


Modeling and Clash Detection:

  • Use Tekla Structures to detect clashes or conflicts in models (e.g., between steel members and other building systems).
  • Provide solutions to resolve conflicts and ensure a smooth workflow between different parts of the project.


Project Documentation:

  • Prepare detailed fabrication drawings, erection plans, and installation manuals.
  • Document and track any design changes or modifications made during the project to maintain proper revisions and version control.


Quality Control:

  • Ensure all drawings and models meet the company and industry standards for quality, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Perform checks to verify that the models are ready for fabrication and assembly with minimal errors.


Software Proficiency:

  • Use Tekla Structures software proficiently to create models, produce drawings, and generate reports.
  • Stay updated with the latest versions and features of Tekla Structures and other relevant design software.
  • Fabrication Support:
  • Assist the fabrication team by providing clarifications or revisions to models and drawings as needed during the construction phase.
  • Resolve issues related to the assembly or installation process, ensuring smooth project delivery.
