A Tekla Steel Detailer is responsible for creating detailed 3D models and drawings for the fabrication and erection of steel structures using Tekla Structures, a Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. The role involves working closely with structural engineers, fabricators, and contractors to ensure that the design is accurate and ready for construction.


Job Description for a Tekla Steel Detailer:


Key Responsibilities:

3D Modeling & Detailing:

  1. Create detailed 3D models of steel structures based on architectural and structural drawings.
  2. Produce accurate fabrication drawings, including shop drawings, assembly drawings, and part drawings.
  3. Prepare detailed steel connection drawings, including bolts, welds, and connections, as per project requirements.


Coordination with Stakeholders:

  1. Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other construction professionals to resolve design and technical issues.
  2. Coordinate with fabrication teams to ensure that the detailing aligns with the manufacturing process and construction schedules.
  3. Attend design and coordination meetings to provide input and receive feedback on model accuracy.


BOM (Bill of Materials) Generation:

  1. Create and update accurate material lists for procurement, ensuring that all components are detailed and consistent with the model.
  2. Verify the accuracy of material quantities and dimensions before submission to the procurement or fabrication team.


Modeling and Clash Detection:

  1. Use Tekla Structures to detect clashes or conflicts in models (e.g., between steel members and other building systems).
  2. Provide solutions to resolve conflicts and ensure a smooth workflow between different parts of the project.


Project Documentation:

  1. Prepare detailed fabrication drawings, erection plans, and installation manuals.
  2. Document and track any design changes or modifications made during the project to maintain proper revisions and version control.


Quality Control:

  1. Ensure all drawings and models meet the company and industry standards for quality, accuracy, and compliance.
  2. Perform checks to verify that the models are ready for fabrication and assembly with minimal errors.


Software Proficiency:

  1. Use Tekla Structures software proficiently to create models, produce drawings, and generate reports.
  2. Stay updated with the latest versions and features of Tekla Structures and other relevant design software.
  3. Fabrication Support:
  4. Assist the fabrication team by providing clarifications or revisions to models and drawings as needed during the construction phase.
  5. Resolve issues related to the assembly or installation process, ensuring smooth project delivery.
