Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of complex software systems and features.
  • Architect scalable and maintainable solutions to meet business needs.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks in projects.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and enforce coding standards.
  • Mentor and guide software developers, providing technical leadership.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and roadmaps.
  • Optimize application performance and troubleshoot advanced issues.
  • Drive adoption of new tools, technologies and best practices.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for team and product development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.

  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Visual FoxPro v9.0, including

  • Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and best practices

  • Application of common design patterns in legacy and modernized codebases
  • Development and maintenance of COM components for interoperability with distributed systems
  • UI/UX design and implementation using native VFP forms and controls
  • Back-end batch processing and transactional logic
  • Advanced use of ADO (ActiveX Data Objects) for data access and manipulation
  • Mastery of the Visual FoxPro debugging environment and performance tuning techniques
  • Strong experience with legacy system modernization, including: (Good to Have)
  • Refactoring and optimizing existing VFP applications
  • Integrating VFP systems with modern platforms (e.g., .NET, REST APIs, SQL Server)
  • Migrating or interfacing with cloud-based services or newer architectures

Database expertise:

  • Deep understanding of VFP DBF file structures and indexing strategies
  • Experience with SQL Server data structures and T-SQL programming language
  • Data modeling, normalization, and performance optimization

Values Extras

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Comfortable with using distributed version control systems such as GIT, ADO
  • .NET Experience
  • Comfortable working in Agile or hybrid development environments
  • Knowledge of system architecture, cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure), and microservices.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
