Position Description

The Associate Strategic Partner Manager, a member of Cengage’s Strategic Partner Management (SPM) team, negotiates pricing agreements and other commercial contracts with third-party outsourcing, intellectual property, and product technology providers for teams across Cengage. This role also performs support activities for SPM team-mates conducting RFx for large-scale rate card programs. Finally, the role performs analysis that supports decision-making related to the sourcing of services, service provider capabilities and capacity, and the efficient mix of resources needed to support Cengage’s product roadmap.This position requires working several hours each week that overlap with the United States business day.

In this engaging role, you will:

Negotiate contracts with a variety of Cengage third-party partnersPrepare both straightforward SOWs and amendments to SOWs and MSAsConduct RFPs, RFQs, and RFIsSupport the broader SPM team in conducting RFPs for large-scale sourcing programsBuild reports that support sourcing-related decision-making

Duties and Responsibilities:

Draft RFP, SOW, SLAs, and price submission documentsDistribute RFx to suppliers and answer their questionsWrite summaries of RFP responsesNegotiate, finalize, and route agreements for signatureMaintain and update program documentationInitiate renewals, modifications with adequate time for decision-makingCollect, normalize, synthesize, and analyze quantitative, qualitative, and financial dataWrite summaries and reports that draw conclusions from data and support decision-making around operational improvements and sourcing priorities.Perform cost–benefit analyses of insourcing v. outsourcing scenariosDesign and implement recurring and ad hoc reports, dashboards, and data visualizations that support, facilitate, and optimize operational understandingPerform basic predictive modeling of the cost impact of alternative sourcing scenariosPerform capacity analysis for product creation activities (i.e., “demand management”); develop workload forecasts that ensure that both Cengage staff and third-party providers can adapt capacity to changing needs in real-timeWrite targeted, concise, and persuasive solution-focused presentationsCollaborate with colleagues in Technology, Product, Finance, and other functional areas to build evaluation methods, Key Performance Indicators and scorecards that measure and validate vendor performance against targets and promote continuous improvement.

Required

Bachelor’s degreeMinimum 5 years’ experience in publishing, education technology, management consulting, business process outsourcing/procurement, and/or financial analysisExcellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to report effectively to managementShown critical thinking and analytical skillsStrong interpersonal skills and attention to detailCollaboration, facilitation, and consensus-building skillsProven track record handling confidential information in a professional mannerExperience with survey tools/applications for data collectionSkilled in the use of proprietary and/or off-the-shelf databases and reporting / dashboarding toolsAbility to self-manage progress against milestones in a virtual work environment with partners around the globeAbility to generate results with a high degree of accountabilityExperienced with all Office 365 applications (Word; PowerPoint; Excel; Outlook; Teams)Skilled in working with text and numeric data in Microsoft Excel

Knowledge of and experience in traditional publishing workflows including editorial, design, production, composition, and conversion workflowsValidated ability to lead online document repositoriesExperience with developing Smartsheet- and PowerBI-based forms, dashboards, and reportsExperience with crafting and editing documents in Adobe Acrobat Pro
