The ABF is responsible for operational activity that supports the Australian Government's border protection, investigations, compliance, detention and enforcement functions.  Within the ABF, Civil Maritime Sustainment Branch (CMSB) is responsible for the capability management and sustainment of a fleet of air and marine surveillance, patrol and response assets. Our capabilities include ocean going patrol boats, shallow water and coastal response vessels and contracted aircraft. The Branch provides command, operational and logistical services in support of ABF's operational objectives.  The CMSB operates in a complex, challenging and changing environment that is characterised by a continually high tempo of operations. Cape Class Patrol Boat Contract Management Section The Cape Class Patrol Boat Contract Management Section manages high-risk, high-value contracts and administration for ABF’s Cape Class Patrol Boats, ensuring effective delivery of In-Service Support (ISS) to maintain fleet availability and readiness. The section leads stakeholder engagement with sustainment providers and enabling areas to deliver a reliable, marine-ready patrol vessel capability. Marine Logistics and Aviation Section Marine Logistics and Aviation Section is a geographically dispersed team providing nation-wide logistics support to the ABF patrol vessel fleet. The ABF manages several high risk high value contracts to support the fleet and provides contract management for the aviation surveillance program, utilised by Maritime Border Command (MBC) to deliver operational objectives and Secure Australia's borders. The section operates warehouses in Darwin, Cairns and Fremantle, and supports facilities in remote Australian territories with the headquarters team located in Canberra. Please visit our website for more information about the Department of Home Affairs or Australian Border Force Our ideal candidate APS6 Assistant Contract Manager The ideal candidate will: Be a proactive and organised professional with experience in contract management, administration, and stakeholder engagement within complex operational environments Demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills, an ability to interpret and apply policy frameworks, and a commitment to assurance and governance Thrive working both independently and collaboratively, managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced setting. APS6 Performance and Finance Officer The ideal candidate will: Bring experience in program finance, budgeting, and financial analysis Have a strong understanding of contract performance and compliance in government or operational settings Be comfortable with both analytical and transactional finance duties, including invoice processing and reconciliation Provide clear financial advice to support decision-making Have strong attention to detail, stakeholder engagement skills, and commitment to governance and transparency will ensure success in this dynamic role. Duties and responsibilities APS6 Assistant Contract Manager The responsibilities of the APS6 Assistant Contract Manager will vary depending on the complexity of the contract. Responsibilities may include: Support the management of complex, high-risk, high-value contracts across maritime and aviation sustainment Deliver contract administration, financial reporting, service level analysis, and governance support  Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, preparing high-quality briefs and documentation  Contribute to assurance, probity, and risk management activities to ensure transparency and accountability Work independently and collaboratively to manage competing priorities and deliver operational objectives. APS6 Performance and Finance Officer The responsibilities of the APS6 Performance and Finance Officer will vary depending on the complexity of the contract. Responsibilities may include: Lead budget planning, expenditure tracking, accruals, and performance-based financial assessments and payments Monitor contract performance against KPIs and financial benchmarks, ensuring compliance with ABF policy frameworks Prepare financial briefs, reports, and contract variations in accordance with legislative requirements Review, process, and reconcile invoices to substantiate costs and support financial decision-making Support procurement planning, contract transition, and sustainment strategy development Contribute to assurance, governance, and probity activities to maintain transparency and accountability.
