Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Department – Purchase to lead our procurement function in the solar industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the entire procurement lifecycle, developing vendor strategies, ensuring cost optimization, and driving efficient sourcing of key materials and services required for solar EPC projects.

The role demands a deep understanding of solar project procurement, including components such as PV modules, inverters, mounting structures, and Balance of Systems (BoS). The HOD – Purchase will play a critical leadership role in cross-functional coordination and ensuring seamless execution of supply chain operations aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Procurement Oversight

• Lead the end-to-end procurement process, including strategic sourcing, contract management, and supplier negotiations.
• Drive procurement planning aligned with project timelines and organizational goals.
• Manage key vendor relationships at a senior level.

2. Vendor Development & Management

• Identify and onboard reliable vendors for solar components and services.
• Conduct regular vendor evaluations and audits for quality, performance, compliance, and cost.
• Negotiate long-term contracts and strategic alliances with suppliers.

3. Cost Optimization & Commercial Evaluation

• Develop and implement cost-control strategies to optimize procurement spend.
• Analyze supplier quotations and conduct thorough commercial evaluations.
• Benchmark pricing and procurement terms across the industry.

4. Process Compliance & Documentation

• Ensure full compliance with internal procurement policies, statutory guidelines, and project specifications.
• Maintain transparent documentation and reporting mechanisms for audits and internal controls.

5. Cross-Functional Coordination

• Collaborate closely with Project Management, Engineering, Finance, and Logistics teams.
• Monitor material requirement plans and proactively address supply risks or delays.
• Resolve escalated supplier disputes or operational bottlenecks.

6. Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and mentor the procurement team to build capability and performance.
• Establish KPIs, monitor progress, and drive process improvements across the department.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong expertise in procurement for solar EPC projects.
• Excellent negotiation, analytical, and leadership skills.
• In-depth knowledge of solar PV modules, inverters, and BoS components.
• Proficient in ERP tools (SAP/Oracle) and MS Office suite.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to lead change and optimize procurement systems.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical / Mechanical) or Supply Chain Management.
• MBA in Operations / Supply Chain (preferred).

Experience:

• 18–20 years of procurement experience, with a proven track record in leadership roles.
• Minimum 8–10 years of experience in the solar or renewable energy industry, particularly in EPC procurement.

Preferred Certifications (Optional):

• Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)
• Six Sigma Certification
• PMP (particularly for large-scale project procurement roles)
