About the Role

As our Founding Full Stack Developer & Head of Backend, you'll be architecting the platform from the ground up and laying the technical foundation for a scalable, high-impact business. You'll fully own the core backend and critical integrations, build and optimize APIs, establish platform security, and help define our tech culture. As we bootstrap, you'll have freelance support for extra work, letting you focus on leading technical direction and delivery.

You'll:

• Lead the architecture, design, and development of all server-side and web application logic.
• Own end-to-end delivery: building, deploying, and iterating our MVP platform.
• Integrate payment solutions, invoicing, user authentication, and secure client data management.
• Collaborate directly with the founder(s) to shape the product, set priorities, and solve real customer problems.
• Guide tech stack choices, cloud infrastructure, and dev workflows for reliability and scale.
• Coordinate with part-time/freelance developers/contractors to fill skill gaps and deliver sprint targets.
• Bring a product mindset: quick MVP cycles, fast user feedback, pragmatic tech choices.

Skills & Experience

Required:

• Proven full stack experience with both backend (Node.js, Python, Ruby, or similar) and frontend frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue).
• Strong experience with cloud backend infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or similar).
• Hands-on with database design, RESTful API development, user authentication and security best practices.
• Experience integrating third-party payment gateways and invoicing systems.
• Familiarity with DevOps (CI/CD, Docker, server monitoring, scalable cloud deployment).
• Track record of building and launching robust SaaS/web platforms (can be MVP/startup experience).
• Proactive, ownership-driven, able to work independently and handle ambiguity—a "maker" mentality.

Nice to Have:

• Experience in B2B SaaS, marketplaces, or platforms serving contractors/trades/services.
• Knowledge of compliance/data privacy, especially in UK/EU (GDPR).
• Frontend or UX skills (bonus for ability to iterate visually or wireframe).
• Prior involvement in an early-stage startup, ideally with equity or co-founder experience.
