As a Data Architect, you will be responsible for designing and implementing secure, scalable, and compliant data solutions that meet the unique needs of our clients in highly regulated environments. Working closely with data engineers, business stakeholders, and IT, you will ensure our data architecture aligns with both business goals and the stringent compliance requirements of global legal firms.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Architecture Design and Optimisation

  • Design and maintain database structures that align with business needs and comply with legal industry standards, focusing on MS SQL, CosmosDB, and Azure-based solutions.
  • Lead ETL processes, transforming and integrating data using Azure Data Factory, MS Synapse, LogicApps, and Power Dataflows.

Cloud Data Solutions and Cost Optimisation

  • Develop and optimise secure, cost-effective cloud data storage solutions on Azure.
  • Implement data storage strategies, including data lakes and data warehouses, ensuring they meet compliance and performance standards.
  • Utilise serverless architecture and auto-scaling to dynamically align resources with demand.

Analytical and Conceptual Skills

  • Translate complex data requirements into practical data structures and architecture designs that support the legal sector’s needs.
  • Establish data lifecycle policies for retention, archiving, and deletion, balancing storage costs with compliance needs.
  • Monitor data quality, ensuring data integrity across storage resources.

Collaboration and Industry Alignment

  • Collaborate with data engineers, business stakeholders, and IT to align data architecture with broader business and technology goals, ensuring it meets the high compliance standards of the legal industry.
  • Apply industry knowledge, particularly in finance, to deliver data solutions that meet client needs in regulated environments.

Emerging Technologies

  • Stay informed on data lakehouses, data mesh, and machine learning/AI, evaluating their potential application within our data architecture for the legal sector.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

ESSENTIAL

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases, particularly MS SQL and CosmosDB.
  • Experience in data modelling, including ER diagrams and normalization.
  • Familiarity with data warehouses, especially Microsoft Synapse.
  • Programming knowledge in Python for data processing and ETL pipelines.

Cloud and Cost Optimisation:

  • Strong understanding of Azure cloud storage and data solutions.
  • Experience in resource scaling and serverless architecture to manage cloud costs effectively.

Analytical Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience in diagnosing and resolving data architecture issues.
  • Knowledge of data retention and archiving best practices.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Effective communicator with experience collaborating across technical and non-technical teams.


DESIRABLE

Data Governance:

  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks and familiarity with Microsoft Purview, ensuring compliance with data security and privacy regulations.

Project Management:

  • Experience managing end-to-end data architecture projects, including documentation and maintenance planning.
