A Gold Loan Officer plays a crucial role in the lending process against gold collateral, ensuring both customer satisfaction and risk mitigation for the financial institution. About the Role The Gold Loan Officer is responsible for overseeing the process of granting loans against gold collateral. This includes evaluating the gold's purity and value, processing loan applications, managing the gold collateral's security, and ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations. The role requires a blend of financial acumen, meticulous attention to detail, and strong customer interaction skills.Responsibilities Gold Appraisal and Valuation: Conduct physical verification and accurate valuation of gold ornaments/articles pledged by customers. Determine the weight, purity (caratage), and market value of the gold collateral. Use gold-testing equipment to ensure accurate assessment and detect spurious or low-purity gold to mitigate risk. Customer Service and Sales: Attend to customers visiting the branch for gold loan services. Explain loan products, terms, conditions, and repayment options clearly and concisely. Assist customers with filling out loan applications and verifying required documents (KYC, etc.). Provide exceptional customer service to ensure a smooth and timely disbursement process (maintaining the TAT - Turnaround Time). Promote or cross-sell other financial products (e.g., insurance, personal loans) to potential customers. Loan Processing and Documentation: Process gold loan applications, ensuring all documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with policy. Verify customer eligibility and creditworthiness as per bank guidelines. Handle loan disbursement and maintain proper records of all transactions. Manage data entry, closure, and renewal of loan accounts in the system. Collateral Security and Risk Management: Ensure the pledged gold is securely handled, packed, and stored in the bank vault/safe room following strict security protocols. Maintain custody of storage keys and manage safe room operations. Report discrepancies, attempted frauds, or suspicious activities to higher authorities immediately. Monitor the loan portfolio to reduce Non-Performing Assets (NPA) and follow up with customers for timely interest collection and repayment. Compliance and Audit: Adhere strictly to all internal policies, processes, external financial regulations, and KYC guidelines. Assist with and ensure zero discrepancies during internal and external audits (IAD/FCU). Close any issues pointed out in audits within the stipulated timeframe.QualificationsEducation: Typically a Bachelor's degree in any field, preferably in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Experience: Proven experience in banking or financial services, often 1-3 years, preferably in gold loans or a related lending/appraisal function.Required Skills Strong knowledge of gold evaluation and testing techniques. Excellent customer service and communication (verbal and written) skills, particularly in the local language. High sales orientation and lead generation/conversion skills to meet targets. Detail-oriented with strong analytical abilities for financial analysis and risk assessment. Familiarity with loan processing software and documentation management.
