Job Description – Accounting & Tax Lead (CA)

About the Role

People Matters is looking for an experienced Chartered Accountant (CA) with 10+ years of working experience to lead its Accounting and Taxation function across all locations. This role will oversee financial reporting, bookkeeping, tax compliance, audits, and regulatory filings while ensuring adherence to applicable accounting standards and local tax laws.

Key Responsibilities

1. Accounting & Financial Management

  • Working alongside a close-knit team of 4-5 people who work very closely and directly with the CFO
  • Lead end-to-end accounting operations across multiple legal entities.
  • Work on periodic closure of books of accounts, preparing MIS's and other financial and analytical reports
  • Ensure timely and accurate closure of books on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Liaise with service providers in Singapore and Middle East to ensure timely and accurate closure of books
  • Oversee financial controls, reconciliations, and general ledger management.
  • Prepare and analyze P&L, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

2. Taxation & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure timely filing of direct and indirect tax returns (GST, TDS, Corporate Tax, etc.) across multiple geographies.
  • Stay updated with tax regulations, transfer pricing, and international taxation policies to ensure compliance.
  • Liaise with tax advisors and government authorities on assessments and tax-related matters.

3. Financial Reporting & MIS

  • Prepare and present management reports (MIS), financial dashboards, and business insights to leadership.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning with analytical inputs.
  • Provide insights on cost control, revenue tracking, and profitability analysis.

4. Audit & Assurance

  • Manage statutory, internal, and compliance audits across regions.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax consultants, and legal teams to ensure smooth audit processes.
  • Ensure compliance with local GAAP requirements

5. Process Improvement & Automation

  • Drive automation of accounting processes, ERP optimization, and financial reporting systems.
  • Implement best practices in internal controls, financial governance, and risk management.

Key Qualifications & Skills

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) with 10+ years of experience in accounting, taxation, and finance.
  • Expertise in Indian GAAP and compliance frameworks 
  • Strong understanding of corporate taxation, GST, transfer pricing, and applicable tax laws.
  • Proven experience in financial reporting, MIS preparation, and budgeting.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP/accounting software and automation tools.
  • Ability to manage multi-entity financial operations and work with international stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
