We are seeking a pre-opening HR Manager for a luxury hotel; an operational leader to ensure the hotel's workforce is well-prepared, aligned with the brand, and motivated to deliver exceptional service from day one.


Merlis Coimbatore is an elegant new luxury hotel set amidst 4 acres of serene landscapes, ideally located just 2 kilometers from Coimbatore International Airport. The hotel features 142 meticulously designed rooms, including five premium dining outlets, and an array of world-class facilities, including two grand ballrooms, a spacious banquet lawn, six well equipped meeting rooms. For relaxation and wellness, guests can enjoy a state-of-the-art health club featuring a spa, gym, and swimming pool. Designed with versatility in mind, Merlis Coimbatore is the perfect destination for corporate MICE functions, large weddings, and distinctive residential-style gatherings, that promise an unforgettable experience for every guest.


Responsibilities extend beyond traditional HR functions, as they must establish foundational systems, recruit staff, and ensure compliance with brand standards.


Duties and Responsibilities


Recruitment and Staffing

Manpower Planning: Determine staffing needs based on operational requirements.

Job Descriptions: Develop detailed job descriptions for all positions in collaboration with department heads.

Talent Acquisition: Oversee the recruitment, screening, and hiring of employees to fill all roles before the opening.

Onboarding and Orientation: Create and implement comprehensive onboarding programs to familiarize new hires with hotel standards, culture, and expectations.


Policy and Procedure Development

HR Policies: Establish and document HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks in alignment with local labor laws and brand guidelines.

Compliance: Ensure all HR practices adhere to local employment laws, tax regulations, and health and safety standards.

Employee Contracts: Draft and manage employment contracts.


Training and Development

Pre-Opening Training: Design and conduct training sessions for staff on hotel standards, service excellence, and brand expectations.

Leadership Training: Develop training programs for supervisory and management roles to prepare them for operational challenges.

Performance Management Systems: Implement appraisal systems to set performance expectations.


Culture and Employee Engagement

Team Building: Foster a positive work culture through team-building activities and initiatives.

Brand Integration: Ensure staff fully understand and embody the brand's vision, mission, and values.

Employee Feedback Mechanisms: Establish channels for employee feedback and address concerns proactively.


Pre-Opening Administration

HR Systems Setup: Implement HR software for payroll, attendance, and employee data management.

Payroll Management: Coordinate with finance to establish payroll systems, benefits administration, and tax deductions.

Vendor Management: Work with recruitment agencies, trainers, and other HR service providers if necessary.


Legal and Compliance

Licensing and Documentation: Ensure all necessary permits and documents related to employment, health, and safety are obtained.

Workplace Safety: Develop health and safety protocols in compliance with local regulations.


Strategic Collaboration

Collaboration with Leadership: Work closely with the General Manager and department heads to align HR strategies with the hotel’s pre-opening goals.

Budget Management: Assist in preparing HR budgets, including recruitment, training, and employee welfare programs.

Contingency Planning: Develop strategies to address staffing or operational challenges.


Transition to Operations

Handover Plans: Prepare a seamless transition from the pre-opening phase to regular operations by ensuring all HR systems and processes are functional.

Continuous Improvement: Evaluate the pre-opening phase to identify lessons learned and recommend improvements for future openings.
