Key Skill Areas for DevOps / SRE Role (Senior) :

Core Technical Skills

1. Linux Systems Administration : Experience managing production-grade Linux systems, including performance tuning, system services, HA configurations, backup/disaster recovery planning.

2. Networking Fundamentals : Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls (iptables/nftables), load balancing concepts, and network troubleshooting across cloud and on-prem environments.

3. Web Server Management : Hands-on experience configuring and managing web servers like Apache and Nginx, including virtual hosts, reverse proxy setups, SSL/TLS certificates, and performance tuning.

4. Public Cloud Infrastructure (AWS / GCP / OCI / Azure) : Hands-on experience with compute, storage, networking, and IAM; understanding of cloudnative monitoring, backup strategies, and cost optimization.

5. Infrastructure as Code (IaC) : Proficiency in Terraform to manage infrastructure using modular, version-controlled code following best practices.

6. Configuration Management : Experience using tools like Ansible and Puppet to automate provisioning, enforce configuration consistency, and manage infrastructure state.

7. CI/CD Pipeline Management : Experience designing and maintaining automated build, test, and deployment workflows using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI/CD.

8. Containerization & Orchestration : Proficiency with Docker for containerizing applications and Kubernetes for orchestrating deployments at scale; familiarity with Helm is a plus.

9. Monitoring & Observability : Proven ability to implement and manage observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Loki), with a focus on metrics, logs, and proactive alerting.

10. Scripting & Automation : Strong scripting skills in Python and Bash for task automation, API integration, and internal tooling development.

11. Incident Response & On-Call Readiness : Practical experience in on-call rotations, incident triage, root cause analysis, and blameless postmortems; understanding of SLOs/SLIs.

12. Security & System Hardening : Knowledge of TLS/SSL setup, OS patching, SSH hardening, IAM policies, and implementing secure access controls and data protection measures.

Bonus Skills :


- Mail System Management : Experience administering mail servers like Postfix, Exim, and Dovecot, including spam filtering and secure mail delivery configuration.

- RDBMS : Experience managing and tuning relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL, including replication, backup strategies, and performance optimization.

- Web Hosting Panels (cPanel/WHM) : Exposure to managing cPanel/WHM environments including account provisioning, DNS/mail configurations, and backup automation.
