Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Database Migration Specialist to join our team for a critical project involving the migration of databases from DB2 to PostgreSQL. As a Database Migration Specialist, you will play a key role in planning, executing, and overseeing the migration process while ensuring minimal disruption to business operations and maximum data integrity. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including database administrators, developers, and system architects to ensure a smooth and successful migration.

Responsibilities:

  1. Migration Planning: Develop comprehensive migration plans outlining the migration strategy, timelines, resources required, and potential risks.
  2. Database Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of existing DB2 databases to identify dependencies, performance bottlenecks, and potential compatibility issues with PostgreSQL.
  3. Schema Conversion: Analyze and convert DB2 database schemas to PostgreSQL-compatible formats, ensuring data integrity and optimal performance.
  4. Data Migration: Design and implement data migration strategies to transfer data from DB2 to PostgreSQL while minimizing downtime and ensuring data consistency.
  5. Query Optimization: Optimize SQL queries and database configurations to maximize performance and scalability on the PostgreSQL platform.
  6. Testing and Validation: Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to validate the accuracy, completeness, and performance of migrated databases.
  7. Documentation: Create detailed documentation of migration processes, procedures, and best practices for future reference.
  8. Training and Support: Provide training and support to internal teams on PostgreSQL database management, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  9. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in database migration and actively contribute to process improvements.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Proven experience in database migration projects, particularly from DB2 to PostgreSQL, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  3. In-depth knowledge of relational database concepts, SQL, and database design principles.
  4. Strong proficiency in both DB2 and PostgreSQL database administration, including performance tuning, backup and recovery, and security management.
  5. Experience with database migration tools such as IBM Data Movement Tool, AWS Database Migration Service, or similar.
  6. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  7. Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across functional teams and stakeholders.
  8. Certification in DB2 and PostgreSQL administration is a plus.
  9. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is desirable.
  10. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
