Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Leadership: Chart the course for the Optometry department by setting strategic goals and objectives that align with our university's mission and vision.
  2. Academic Excellence: Oversee the development and delivery of top-tier academic programs in Optometry, ensuring adherence to accreditation standards and fostering excellence in teaching, research, and clinical practice.
  3. Curriculum Development: Lead the design and enhancement of our Optometry curriculum to reflect industry trends, technological advancements, and the evolving needs of our students and stakeholders.
  4. Faculty Management: Recruit, develop, and retain a diverse team of faculty members, nurturing a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous professional growth.
  5. Student Success: Implement strategies to support student success and retention, providing mentorship, guidance, and resources to enhance the learning experience and promote academic achievement.
  6. Clinical Practice Oversight: Manage the operation of clinical facilities and practices affiliated with the Optometry department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and services.
  7. Research and Scholarship: Cultivate a culture of research and scholarship within the department, supporting faculty and students in conducting innovative projects and disseminating findings through publications and presentations.
  8. Community Engagement: Foster partnerships with external stakeholders to enhance experiential learning opportunities, research collaborations, and outreach initiatives.
  9. Accreditation and Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards relevant to Optometry education and clinical practice.
  10. Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage departmental budgets effectively to support academic programs, research activities, and clinical operations.
  11. Professional Development: Stay abreast of developments in the field, participating in professional organizations and pursuing opportunities for growth and expertise enhancement.
  12. Collaborative Leadership: Collaborate with other departments to promote interdisciplinary initiatives that advance our university's mission and strategic priorities.


Requirements:

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution; advanced degree (PhD) preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in academic administration, preferably in higher education.
  • Proven track record of excellence in teaching, research, and/or clinical practice in Optometry.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage faculty, staff, and resources to achieve departmental goals.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and clinical practice.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements relevant to Optometry education and clinical practice.
