About the Role

The Principal Data Architect, will lead the design, implementation, and strategic development of enterprise-wide data architecture to support retail operations in Australia and New Zealand. Your expertise will enable scalable, innovative, and secure data solutions aligned with business objectives, driving insights and supporting decision-making across our customer's organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Define and execute the enterprise data strategy, aligning with our business growth objectives.
• Lead the design and innovation of scalable data architecture frameworks, including Medallion Architecture.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders and C-level executives to champion data-driven initiatives.
• Establish and nurture relationships with technology partners and vendors.

Data Architecture & Implementation

• Design and oversee enterprise-level data platforms (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers)
• Develop robust integration patterns to connect diverse data sources across retail and e-commerce operations.
• Implement best practices for data warehouses, data lakes, and real-time processing.

Governance & Security

• Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and Data Governance teams to establish comprehensive data quality, security, and compliance frameworks.
• Ensure adherence to regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, Australian Privacy Principles).
• Define and implement data retention and archival policies.

Leadership & Team Collaboration

• Mentor and guide a team of data architects, engineers, and modellers.
• Work cross-functionally with IT, analytics, and operations teams to ensure architectural alignment.
• Provide leadership for offshore teams and ensure seamless collaboration across time zones.

Experience

• 10+ years in data architecture roles, including 5+ years in senior/enterprise-level positions.
• Proven expertise in retail or e-commerce industries.
• Track record of leading large-scale, transformative data initiatives.

Technical Proficiency

• Strong knowledge of Cloud Platforms: Azure, Google Cloud.
• Data Processing Frameworks: Medallion architecture, real-time analytics.
• Data Models: Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault.
• Tools: Microsoft Fabric, BigQuery, Cognos.
• Familiarity with ETL/ELT technologies, metadata management, and API integrations.

Skills

• Exceptional leadership and stakeholder management abilities.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Experience in offshore delivery models and cross-functional collaboration.
