SAP ABAP Consultant

Key Responsibilities :

As an SAP ABAP Consultant, you will play a critical role in designing and delivering robust, efficient, and future-ready ABAP solutions that enable seamless business operations and support enterprise digital transformation. You will be expected to not only build and optimize solutions but also provide strategic technical guidance, mentoring, and innovation inputs that align with organizational objectives.

Your responsibilities will include :

Custom Development & Enhancements :

- Design, develop, and maintain RICEF objects (Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, and Forms) across multiple SAP modules, ensuring scalability and reusability.

- Build and enhance custom ABAP applications and utilities to automate business processes, reduce manual efforts, and improve efficiency.

- Apply best practices and SAP coding standards, ensuring compliance with security, performance, and maintainability guidelines.

Collaboration & Requirement Gathering :

- Partner with functional consultants, business stakeholders, and solution architects to understand requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and deliver optimal ABAP solutions.

- Act as a trusted advisor, providing technical input during workshops, design sessions, and project planning discussions.

Performance Optimization & Debugging :

- Execute debugging, performance tuning, SQL trace analysis, and memory optimization to enhance system reliability.

- Identify root causes of complex issues, implement corrective actions, and document solutions for knowledge retention.

Workflow & Form Development :

- Develop, configure, and maintain SAP Workflows, SmartForms, Adobe Forms, ALV reports, BADIs, BAPIs, user exits, and enhancements to meet evolving business requirements.

- Ensure consistency and compliance with corporate design templates and business standards.

Integration & Interfaces :

- Build and maintain integration solutions using ALE/IDoc, RFC, BDC, BAPIs, OData, and SAP Gateway to ensure seamless communication across SAP and non-SAP systems.

- Collaborate with middleware and cloud teams to support hybrid integration landscapes.

S/4HANA & Modern ABAP Development :

- Contribute to S/4HANA conversion, migration, and greenfield implementation projects, leveraging Core Data Services (CDS), AMDPs, HANA SQL scripting, and new ABAP syntax.

- Ensure solutions are optimized for HANA database performance and future-proof architecture.

Testing & Quality Assurance :

- Perform unit testing, peer code reviews, system integration testing, and UAT support, ensuring deliverables meet business and technical acceptance criteria.

- Support cutover activities and go-live readiness, with emphasis on risk mitigation and issue resolution.

Documentation & Knowledge Transfer :

- Produce and maintain technical design documents, coding guidelines, reusable templates, and system manuals.

- Conduct knowledge transfer (KT) sessions, peer mentoring, and internal training workshops for junior developers.

Collaboration & Delivery Excellence :

- Work closely with Basis, Functional, Integration, Security, and Infrastructure teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.

- Collaborate within global delivery models, ensuring consistent communication, alignment, and high-quality project execution.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement :

- Stay updated on SAP technology roadmaps, best practices, and emerging trends, proactively recommending improvements.

- Suggest and implement automation, code reusability, and DevOps-driven enhancements to improve development lifecycle efficiency.

Required Qualifications & Experience :

- 6+ years of proven, hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development, covering multiple modules such as SD, MM, FI, HCM, PP, or others.

- Strong proficiency in RICEF development (Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms) and Object-Oriented ABAP (OOABAP).

- Solid experience with ABAP on HANA/S/4HANA, including CDS Views, AMDPs, performance tuning, and advanced SQL scripting.

- Proficiency in integration technologies (IDoc, ALE, RFC, BAPIs, OData, Web Services) and experience with SAP Gateway and REST APIs.

- Advanced debugging, problem-solving, and optimization skills, especially in large and complex SAP environments.

- Full-cycle project experience, covering requirement gathering, technical design, build, testing, deployment, cutover, and hypercare support.

- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with global teams, clients, and stakeholders.

- Experience in managing deliverables independently, as well as mentoring junior developers.

Desired (Preferred) Skills & Certifications :

- SAP ABAP Certification (Associate or Professional).

- Hands-on experience with SAP Fiori/UI5 development, including custom apps and OData service creation/consumption.

- Familiarity with SAP Workflow, Adobe Forms, SAP Gateway, and event-driven architectures.

- Prior experience in Agile/DevOps delivery environments, including CI/CD pipelines, Git-based version control, and automated testing.

- Knowledge of integration with SAP Cloud solutions (SuccessFactors, Ariba, SAP Analytics Cloud, Concur).

- Exposure to SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), RAP model, and cloud-native ABAP development.

- Strong documentation, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing mindset.

- Ability to adapt quickly to emerging technologies and deliver innovative solutions that align with business goals.
