Role and Responsibilities :

Database Installation and Configuration :


- Responsible for installing Oracle database software, configuring instances, setting up database storage structures, and ensuring proper initialization for production and development environments.

Performance Tuning and Optimization :

- Continuously monitors database performance, identifies bottlenecks, and tunes SQL queries, memory usage, and other parameters to ensure optimal performance and availability.

Backup and Recovery Management :

- Implements robust backup strategies using RMAN (Recovery Manager) and ensures disaster recovery plans are in place to recover data in case of failures or data corruption.


User Access Control and Security :


- Manages user roles, privileges, and authentication mechanisms to ensure data confidentiality and integrity while complying with organizational and regulatory security standards.

Database Upgrades and Patch Management :


- Oversees database version upgrades, patch applications, and migration activities, ensuring minimal downtime and compatibility with existing applications.

Skills Required :

- Oracle DB internals : Understanding Oracle-specific features like PL/SQL, packages, triggers, sequences, and data types.


- PostgreSQL internals : Knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, SQL syntax, and capabilities.

- Translate Oracle SQL and PL/SQL code to PostgreSQL SQL and PL/pgSQL.

- Handle differences in syntax, functions, and stored procedure logic.

- Understanding how to convert Data types Constraints, indexes, sequences, Users, roles, and privileges

- Performance Tuning

- Backup & Recovery

- Ensure rollback plans are in place in case of issues.

- Basic Linux/Unix system administration

- Database deployment and configuration

- Ora2Pg (most commonly used open-source tool) and pg loader

- Write ETL scripts in Python, Shell, or SQL for data transformation and movement.

- Automate migration workflows using scripting.
