Job Responsibilities

  • Design and build a new multi-data center Cassandra Cluster to meet business requirements.
  • Plan and execute the installation, configuration, and deployment of Cassandra nodes, multi data center setup, re-distribution of nodes etc.
  • Configure and fine-tune the cluster for optimal performance, including replication strategies, partitioning, consistency levels, and compaction settings.
  • Evaluate & Re-architect existing multi data center cluster setup to improve scalability, reliability, and availability
  • Upgrade Cassandra Versions ( minor and major upgrades) with zero to minimal downtime.
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot existing multi-data center Cassandra clusters to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Set up monitoring tools and dashboards
  • Develop and configure alerting mechanisms to proactively identify and resolve potential issues.
  • Develop scripts for automated monitoring, alerting, and maintenance activities.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks & automate routine tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and configuration management tools (eg:ansible).
  • Analyze and optimize cluster performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement performance tuning and collaborate with application teams as needed.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design & optimize data modeling and application interactions with Cassandra, and with Infrastructure team for OS upgrade and other compliance related upgrade/fix.
  • Ensure Data Security, compliance, and access controls
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for cluster design, configurations, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Provide On-Call support for critical issues.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of extensive experience with Cassandra administration and development
  • Strong understanding of Cassandra architecture, data replication strategies, consistency levels, compaction strategies and data modeling
  • Deep understanding of distributed databases and multi-data center architecture.
  • Proficiency in setting up and managing multi-data center Cassandra cluster.
  • Proficiency in Cassandra configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
  • Skilled in Linux environments and shell scripting
  • Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools.
  • Experience with cloud environments (AWS) and cloud-native services is a plus
