Job Role : Mainframe Developer

Position Overview :

A Mainframe Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining applications on IBM mainframe systems using core technologies like COBOL, JCL, VSAM, and DB2. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work on complex batch processes and transaction-based systems - often in the banking, insurance, and financial domains.

Key Responsibilities :

- Analyze, design, code, test, and implement mainframe-based solutions using COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM

- Develop and maintain batch jobs and online applications

- Write and optimize JCL scripts for job automation and scheduling

- Handle data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) using SyncSort, SELCOPY, or other utilities

- Perform impact analysis and provide estimates for enhancements or issue fixes

- Work with QA and business teams to ensure solution accuracy and performance

- Provide L2/L3 support for application issues in production

- Debug and resolve issues by analyzing logs and batch/job run reports

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver technical solutions in Agile or waterfall environments

- Document code changes, prepare release notes, and maintain version control as per process

- Participate in mainframe modernization or migration initiatives if applicable

Technical Environment :

- Languages: COBOL, JCL, Easytrieve, PL/I

- Databases: DB2, VSAM, IMS

- Utilities: SyncSort, SELCOPY, IDCAMS, FTP, File-Aid

- Tools: TSO/ISPF, Endevor, Panvalet, CA7, Control-M

- Operating System: IBM z/OS

- Ticketing: ServiceNow, BMC Remedy

Preferred Skills :

- Knowledge of banking or financial systems

- Hands-on with mainframe testing tools

- Familiarity with mainframe DevOps pipeline (modernization tools, migration scripts)
