Key Responsibilities of a Mainframe Lead

The role of a Mainframe Lead involves strategic planning and execution of complex COBOL programs and subroutines.

  • Develop efficient JCL scripts for batch operations to ensure seamless processing.
  • Optimize CICS applications for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Oversee database schema management in DB2, guaranteeing data integrity and optimal performance.
  • Mentor junior developers, setting coding standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate in system integration, testing, and deployment phases.

Analyze system architecture to propose improvements or new designs, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Tech Requirements and Professional Qualifications
  • Primary skills: Proficiency in COBOL, Mainframe Technologies.
  • Desirable Skills: Advanced knowledge in COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2.
Mainframe Expertise and System Integration
  • Experience with mainframe performance tuning tools like CA tools or IBM's tools.
  • Proficiency in debugging complex issues using tools like XPEDITER or InterTest.
  • Understanding of mainframe security, including RACF or ACF2.
  • Ability to handle large-scale data processing and ETL on mainframes.
  • Knowledge of interfacing between mainframe and other systems (like web services).
  • Skills in change management and source control for mainframe environments.
