Geo Hazard Specialist

Key Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

• Provide geohazards expertise across offshore wind portfolio from bid through development to operations.

• Ensure geohazard identification, assessment and mitigation, for appropriate depths of interest (e.g. cable or foundation), by avoidance or by design at windfarm sites, cable routes, landfalls and onshore facilities, during site investigation and project design and execution.

• Work within an integrated geoscience team to build fit-for-purpose ground models for wind farm engineering.

• Quantify and present risks to relevant customers to ensure they are understood, controlled and continuously reduced across the business.

• Ensure safe and cost-efficient design and integrity management throughout asset life in accordance with industry technical practices and standards.

• Maintain relationships with third party suppliers, contractors, and other partners.

• Actively contribute to technology development and to the wider geohazards and geophysics communities of practice to share knowledge and findings.


Qualification & Education:

1. Degree in Geoscience, Engineering, or related field.

2. Excellent understanding of the impact of Marine Geohazards issues to operational safety and integrity in delivery of the organizational vision.

3. Ability to rapidly identify and communicate key issues in support of the growth of Offshore Renewables - especially in relation to the assessment of entry to new operational areas.

4. Extensive industry experience in delivering Ground modelling and Geohazards Assessments across a variety of international settings, for very shallow (e.g. cables) and shallow (e.g. foundation) settings.

5. Excellent interpersonal skills both oral and written.

6. Proven experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and major projects with minimal technical supervision

7. Expert user of industry standard project and engineering software.

• PhD/MSc on Geohazards related subject.

Geo Technical Engineer:

Key Accountabilities:

  • You will be part of integrated Site Assessment and Ground Engineering team developing fit-for-purpose ground models and ground-engineering for bid assessment through design, construction, and operation.


  • The ground models and engineering jointly developed by acquiring, interpreting, and engineering with ground data are a critical part of wind farm development. The role is fundamental to identifying the optimum locations and engineering solutions for offshore wind developments. It requires collaboration with engineering, and construction disciplines to safely deliver site investigations, foundation design and ultimately foundation installation.


  • The focus of the role is the geotechnical aspects of site-assessment related to the design, construction, and installation of foundations for Wind Turbine Generators (WTG) and associated infrastructure (offshore and onshore substations, cables) in support of low carbon energy projects and operations.


  • Be part of a specialist group providing geotechnical engineering expertise across offshore wind portfolio from bid through development to operations.


  • Work within an integrated geoscience team integrating geotechnical data to help build fit for purpose integrated ground models for wind farm engineering.


  • Assist quantification of (geo) hazards risk and opportunities to relevant stakeholders to ensure they are understood and controlled across the business.


  • Provide quantitative analysis to help select offshore wind foundation concept for fixed and floating foundations with due consideration of technical feasibility, ease of construction, transportation to site, installation challenges, risks, and life-of-field cost.


  • Ensure safe and cost-efficient design and integrity management throughout asset life in accordance with industry technical practices and standards.


  • Develop relationships with third party suppliers, contractors, and other partners.


  • Actively contribute to technology development and to the wider geotechnical engineering community of practice to share knowledge and findings.


Experience and Qualifications:

• Civil/ Geotechnical engineering degree.

• 5 years or more of relevant industry experience

• Appropriate professional accreditation

• Knowledge of industry codes and standards.

• Excellent interpersonal skills both oral and written.

• Proven experience in Offshore Wind ground engineering for a wide range of ground engineering services including foundations e.g. Monopiles, suction caissons, driven piles, drilled and grouted piles, shallow foundations (inc. Gravity base structures, and Jack-up units) and Cables e.g. burial-risk assessments, thermal response, landfall and onshore design.

• Proven experience in planning and implementation of site investigations, characterization and ground modelling, and related development of Basis’ of design.

Beneficial skills:

• Masters/ PhD in relevant engineering discipline

• Knowledge of the variety of site-survey data types commonly used in different settings.

• Geotechnical Site Survey acquisition design, oversight, and QC, and/or offshore experience on site survey vessels.

• Advanced CPTu interpretation expertise.

• Data Integration (in particular of Geophysical, Geotechnical and Geological logs) expertise and familiarization with ground models.

Senior Foundation Engineer:

Key Accountabilities:

• Provide foundation package input to front-end project development.

• Define and lead technical studies to inform key project decisions.

• Develop the technical portion of the package requisition including technical specifications and information requirements and support supply chain engagement.

• Work closely with the Quality Lead to define test and inspection requirements.

• Lead the technical bid evaluation.

• Performance manages contractor package engineering.

• Technical verification of contractor engineering including design reviews

• Review and approve deviations.

• Verify supplier documentation and manage the document review process, inform inspector visits and support client verification of construction work.

• Support technical queries from other project functions, particularly operations and commissioning.

• Verify package technical close-out and recommend readiness to ship.

• Capture lessons at keys stages during the package management lifecycle to continuously improve portfolio technical knowledge.

• Deliver foundation innovation, technology and designs that optimise the LCoE of the portfolio.

Qualification and Experience:

· Engineering Degree in a relevant discipline.

· Demonstrated technical competency in structural engineering discipline with broad understanding of the applicable codes and standards for the scope.

· Fluent written and spoken English language.

· Significant experience of project design stages (pre-FEED/FEED/detailed design)

· A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience of offshore structures

· Understanding of the interfaces and interaction with supporting engineering disciplines for the scope of this package, particularly geotechnical

· Understand technical risk identification and management processes to deliver safe and competitive projects.

· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across functions and within multi-disciplinary teams.

Desirable Criteria

· Chartered Engineer

· Experience of technology development

· Understand Quality Management process for engineering, manufacture, and installation.

· Understand technical aspects of competitive procurement process.

· Ability in performance management of others (including. 3rd party engineering services providers) to support timely decision making.

· Experience of construction, installation, and operations support
