Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership & Compliance

- Develop and implement the organization's Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF).

- Ensure compliance with national regulations (e.g., MoEFCC, CPCB, SPCB, Forest Act) and international standards (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, World Bank EHS Guidelines, Equator Principles).

- Lead internal E&S audits and ensure corrective action plans are implemented effectively.

- Development & Implementation of Environment & Social Management System (ESMS)

2. Policy Development & Implementation

- Design and update E&S policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and guidelines.

- Ensure policies align with corporate ESG strategy, sustainability goals, and SDGs.

- Ensure alignment with IFC PS 1 (Assessment and Management of Environmental and Social Risks and Impacts).

- Allocate resources effectively and ensure continuous upskilling and professional development.

- Conduct E&S due diligence, risk assessments, and impact assessments (ESIA/ESMP) for new and existing projects and ensure their Compliance.

3. Project Screening, Due Diligence & Risk Assessment

- Conduct E&S due diligence, risk assessments, and impact assessments (ESIA/ESMP) for new and existing projects and ensure their Compliance.

- Identify mitigation and management strategies to address biodiversity, land use, pollution, and social impacts (like land acquisition, resettlement, livelihoods).

- Lead or coordinate the preparation of project-specific ESIAs, Initial Environmental Examinations (IEEs), and Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) in compliance with IFC Performance Standards, World Bank ESF, and national regulations.

- Identify, assess, and mitigate potential environmental and social risks and impacts at various project stages (pre-construction, construction, operation, decommissioning).

- Coordination with Lendor & Investor to respond their queries

- Ensure the ERP Compliance at Facility Level, Green Building

4. Stakeholder Engagement

- Develop and maintain relationships with government bodies, communities, NGOs, and lenders.

- Design and execute Stakeholder Engagement Plans (SEP) and Grievance Redressal Mechanisms (GRM).

5. Permitting & Clearances

- Oversee and coordinate applications for environmental clearances (EC), forest clearances (FC), CRZ clearance, and consents to establish and operate (CTE/CTO).

- Liaise with consultants, authorities, and legal teams to expedite approvals.

6. Social Performance Management

- Manage land acquisition processes, ensuring compliance with RFCTLARR Act, and address resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R) obligations.

- Promote community development programs, especially in project-affected areas, aligned with CSR initiatives.

7. Monitoring, Reporting & Capacity Building

- Establish systems for monitoring environmental and social performance indicators.

- Prepare and submit periodic E&S reports to senior management, regulators, and financial institutions.

- Train internal teams and contractors on Environment and social safeguards.

8. Crisis Management & Incident Response

- Oversee emergency response planning for environmental incidents or social unrest.

- Investigate E&S incidents and ensure timely closure with root cause analysis and lessons learned.

9. Sustainable Development & ESG Contribution

- Contribute to ESG disclosures (e.g., BRSR, GRI, CDP).

- Drive initiatives on climate resilience, nature-based solutions, and green infrastructure.

- Support GHG reduction, resource efficiency, and circular economy strategies.

10. Team Management

- Lead a team of E&S professionals and consultants across multiple project locations.

- Allocate resources effectively and ensure continuous upskilling and professional development.
