Position: Senior DevOps Engineer (Contractor)Role DescriptionThis role is a contract assignment at Palo Alto Networks. Contractors will not be employed by Palo Alto Networks but through our trusted staffing partners. Location - Bengaluru, India (Remote)Duration – 12 MonthsRole OverviewWe are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join our technology team. This critical role focuses on ensuring the stability, scalability, and security of our core infrastructure across on-premise and cloud environments. The ideal candidate will possess an expert background in System Administration, Network Engineering, and Cloud Infrastructure, enabling them to design, build, monitor, and troubleshoot the entire technology stack.Key ResponsibilitiesI. Cloud Infrastructure & OperationsInfrastructure as Code (IaC): Design, implement, and manage infrastructure using IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) to provision, update, and manage reproducible and highly scalable cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).Cloud Resource Management: Manage and optimize core cloud services (e.g., Compute, Storage, IAM, PaaS offerings) to maximize performance and minimize cost.Automation: Continuously identify and automate repetitive operational tasks and manual processes using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).Environment Management: Oversee the setup, configuration, and maintenance of Development, Staging, and Production environments across the cloud platform.II. System AdministrationOS Management: Expertly administer, configure, and troubleshoot Linux and/or Windows server environments, ensuring security, performance, and stability.Server Automation: Utilize automation tools (e.g., Python, Shell Script) for efficient server provisioning, patching, and configuration drift prevention.Monitoring & Logging: Establish and maintain comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and logging systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack/Splunk) to ensure high availability and performance.Security & Hardening: Implement and enforce security best practices for operating systems, services, and cloud resources, including patch management, vulnerability remediation, and system hardening.III. NetworkingNetwork Configuration: Design, implement, and manage secure and reliable network configurations for cloud and on-premise infrastructure, including VPCs, subnets, route tables, and firewalls (Security Groups, ACLs).Troubleshooting: Expertly diagnose and resolve complex network connectivity, latency, and performance issues across various layers (L2/L3) of the OSI modelVPN & Connectivity: Configure and maintain VPNs or other secure connectivity solutions (e.g., Direct Connect, ExpressRoute) between internal networks and cloud environments.Protocol Expertise: Deep understanding of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, HTTP/S, DNS, and their application in distributed systems.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.5+ years of professional experience in a DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Senior Infrastructure/SysAdmin role.Proven expertise with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).Strong hands-on experience with IaC tools (Terraform strongly preferred).Expert-level proficiency in Linux system administration and scripting (Bash, Python).Deep understanding of networking concepts, including routing, subnets, firewalls, and network troubleshooting.Desired Skills (Nice-to-Have)Experience with serverless technologies (e.g., AWS Lambda, Azure Functions).Experience implementing Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP).Strong understanding of application security and secure coding principles.Certification in a cloud platform (e.g., AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate).Information about Palo Alto NetworksAt Palo Alto Networks®, everything starts and ends with our mission:Being the cybersecurity partner of choice, protecting our digital way of life.We have the vision of a world where each day is safer and more secure than the one before.
