Summary :

We are seeking an accomplished Engineering Director with a demonstrated and exceptional track record in leading the process of building and scaling high-performing engineering teams. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in strategic team development, technical leadership, and project management. As an Engineering Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing our engineering organization to new heights.


The Engineering Director leads the engineering team for a Customer Success hub. Your focus is on building and developing a strong team of engineers and engineering leaders who are ready to deliver outstanding implementations of Backbase products for our customers.


As a member of the hub leadership team you will collaborate with your peers and Hub RVPs to ensure Backbase customers are successful in their use of Backbase products and services.

Team Leadership and Development Team Building :Leverage significant experience to attract, recruit, and onboard top-tier engineering talent.
Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for team growth and skill diversification.
Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration.
Leadership and Mentorship :
Provide strong leadership to multiple engineering teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Mentor and guide team leads and engineers to achieve their career objectives and maximize their potential.
Technical Vision and Strategy :

Technical Excellence :

  • Define and communicate a clear technical vision aligned with the company's long-term objectives.
  • Formulate and execute strategies for maintaining technical excellence and staying ahead of industry trends.
Innovation and Research :
  • Drive innovation within the engineering teams through the exploration of emerging technologies and methodologies.
  • Encourage a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement.
Project Management and Delivery :

Project Planning and Execution :

  • Leading the engineering manager group in ensuring that Backbase's Secure SDLC engineering practices and principles are implemented and followed in all customer engagements in the hub, with a particular focus on quality, security and predictability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align project goals with overall business objectives.
Risk Management :
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to project delivery, technical challenges, and team dynamics.
Process & Continuous Improvement :
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality across engineering workflows.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for software development and project and Stakeholder Engagement :

    Communication Skills :

    • Effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Provide regular updates to executive leadership on team progress, challenges, and strategic initiatives.
    Qualification & Additional Responsibilities :
    • Proven track record of 10+ years in a leadership role, with a focus on building and scaling engineering teams.
    • Successful delivery of complex engineering projects and initiatives.
    • Collaborate with the Engineering Directors in other hubs and with the VP Engineering Customer Success on identifying and implementing improvements to our global engineering and delivery practices.
    • Promote the profile and professional development of your team by facilitating participation in internal and external events such as the Engineering Summit, Tech Talks, Conferences, internal working groups and publishing opportunities.
    • Act as an ambassador for Backbase, its engineering practices and as a great place to work.
    • Work with Talent Acquisition in your region on employer branding activities and improvements to hiring and onboarding leadership and people management skills.
    • Deep technical expertise with a solid understanding of [specify relevant technologies and thinker with a results-oriented mindset.
    • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
