You will be working as R&D Department Lead for Motion Drive Products (MODP) division based in Bangalore, India and will be reporting to MODP Global R&D Manager. In this role you will primarily lead and represent MODP R&D operations at AIC India to achieve the agreed R&D targets. Ensure on-time, in-cost and quality implementation of the project portfolio. Support global R&D management in developing technology and footprint strategies. Ensure fruitful and trust-based cooperation with other local R&D operations. Develop local plans and targets in line with
global strategies and targets.

Position Grade 09.

Your responsibilities
  • Setting the yearly key priorities and monitoring the performance (through KPIs) of development projects and related processes for the R&D unit. Ensuring objectives, priorities, key decisions and status are effectively communicated to all stakeholders
  • Supporting team and department leads to plan capacity, people and resources for R&D projects according to the local allocated budget and proactively avoiding conflicts
  • Overseeing efficient, timely and quality project execution and ensuring financial and content supervision over the projects
  • Ensuring local organization becomes or remains cost-efficient with competitive hourly and monthly rates
  • Supporting global R&D management in the development of medium- and long-term strategies, derives consistent local strategies and targets and implements them in local organization
  • Managing and developing resources and competencies together with other R&D managers plus defining local development focus areas (core competencies)
  • Overseeing appropriate staffing and skilling of the R&D unit and its projects, and developing short-, medium- and long-term tactics and strategies to keep competencies and capabilities up to date
  • Supporting department and team leads to manage underperformance
  • Ensuring appropriate legal contracts and policies for IP, NDAs, tax regulations etc. are consistent with the local law, ABB guidelines
  • Serving as the key technical entry point and high-level discussion partner for the country/region and global R&D management regarding technologies addressed by the local R&D organization
Your background
  • Master's or bachelor's degree in Computers, Electrical, Electronics, IT or Equivalent University level technical education
  • 10+ years of proven track record in leading technical and managerial R&D positions
  • Broad technical knowledge of the relevant technologies for Drive Products
  • Good knowledge over IP strategy, risk management, quality assurance, project management and competence and process improvement processes, tools and methods
  • Good overall understanding of the product development related processes and manufacturing technologies and basic financial knowledge
  • Possess a good understanding of macroeconomic trends and opportunities in relation to the R&D function.
  • Excellent leadership, collaboration and communication skills
  • Fluent written and spoken English
