Job Title
Director, Infrastructure Engineering

Job Summary:


As the Mainframe Infrastructure Director, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the mainframe computing environment within the organization.

You will lead a team of skilled professionals in ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of mainframe systems, as well as drive strategic initiatives to modernize and optimize mainframe infrastructure in alignment with business objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning:
Develop and execute strategies for mainframe infrastructure to support the organization's short-term and long-term goals. Collaborate with senior management to align mainframe initiatives with overall business objectives. Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to continuously improve mainframe infrastructure capabilities.

Team Leadership:
Lead and mentor a team of mainframe engineers and administrators, providing guidance and support for their professional development. Foster a collaborative and innovative work culture within the team. Manage resource allocation and workload distribution to ensure efficient operation of the mainframe infrastructure team.

Infrastructure Design and Implementation:
Oversee the design and implementation of mainframe hardware and software configurations to meet performance, reliability, and security requirements. Coordinate with other IT teams to integrate mainframe systems with other infrastructure components and applications. Conduct regular assessments to identify opportunities for optimization and enhancement of mainframe infrastructure.

Maintenance and Support:
Establish and maintain proactive monitoring and maintenance processes to ensure the availability and performance of mainframe systems. Develop and enforce policies and procedures for incident response, problem management, and change control related to mainframe infrastructure. Provide escalated support for complex technical issues and outages impacting mainframe operations.

Security and Compliance:
Implement and enforce security measures to protect mainframe systems from unauthorized access, data breaches, and cyber threats. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and industry best practices pertaining to mainframe infrastructure. Coordinate with compliance and audit teams to conduct regular security assessments and address any identified vulnerabilities or non-compliance issues.

Vendor Management:

Manage relationships with mainframe hardware and software vendors, including contract negotiations, service level agreements (SLAs), and vendor performance evaluations.

Stay informed about vendor product roadmaps and upcoming releases to assess their potential impact on mainframe infrastructure strategy.

Sales Support and Cost Estimation

Collaborate with the sales and business development teams to understand customer requirements and develop cost estimates for mainframe infrastructure solutions in response to RFPs.

Analyse customer needs and technical specifications to determine the hardware, software, and services required to meet project objectives.

Work closely with procurement and finance departments to obtain accurate pricing information for mainframe hardware, software licenses, maintenance contracts, and professional services.

Develop pricing models and proposals that align with customer budgets and competitive market rates while ensuring profitability for the organization.

Participate in customer meetings and presentations to discuss mainframe solutions, address technical questions, and justify cost estimates.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

Extensive experience years in mainframe infrastructure management, including hands-on experience with mainframe hardware, operating systems (e.g., z/OS), and subsystems like CICS, DB2, MQ and Proficiency in Mainframe performance and Capacity planning.

Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a proven track record of successfully leading high-performing technical teams.
In-depth knowledge of mainframe architecture, networking protocols, storage systems, and virtualization technologies.
Good understanding of Mainframe architecture & applications.
Sound knowledge in

Mainframe Disaster Recovery:

Mainframe disaster recovery plans involve comprehensive strategies to recover from catastrophic events, such as natural disasters, data center outages, or cyber-attacks.

Experience with mainframe modernization initiatives, such as cloud migration, virtualization, and automation.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Industry certifications (e.g., IBM Certified System Administrator for z/OS) are a plus.
