Role Description

We are seeking a highly motivated CFD Engineer Intern to support high-fidelity aerodynamic simulations and analysis. You will work closely with our engineering team to set up, run, and validate CFD cases involving external aerodynamics of wings, airfoils, and aircraft configurations. The role involves mesh generation, solver setup, post-processing, and extracting key aerodynamic quantities to support ongoing R&D projects.


Responsibilities

• Perform CFD simulations using OpenFOAM for external aerodynamic applications (airfoils, wings, aircraft geometries).

• Generate structured and unstructured meshes using blockMesh and snappyHexMesh.

• Set up incompressible and compressible flow solvers, boundary conditions, and turbulence models.

• Conduct mesh independence studies, simulation validation, and result verification.

• Extract and analyze aerodynamic performance metrics such as lift coefficient (CL), drag coefficient (CD), pressure distributions, and flow visualization.

• Post-process results using ParaView or similar tools.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to design, optimize, and evaluate aerodynamic concepts.

• Document simulations, results, and workflow methodologies.


Qualifications

Must-Have Skills

• Strong proficiency and hands-on experience with OpenFOAM for external aerodynamics.

• Experience running CFD cases for airfoils, wings, or aircraft configurations.

• Solid understanding of incompressible and compressible aerodynamics.

• Practical experience with blockMesh and snappyHexMesh for mesh generation.

• Strong foundation in aerospace, mechanical, or related engineering fields (ongoing undergraduate or graduate degree).

• Good understanding of turbulence modeling and CFD best practices.

• Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for basic automation and post-processing.


Nice-to-Have

• Any research publications or conference papers in CFD or aerodynamics.

• Experience with advanced OpenFOAM simulations, including heat transfer or conjugate heat transfer (CHT).

• Exposure to hypersonic, supersonic, or transonic CFD simulations.

• Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
