Our people make all the difference in our success. This role is a Software Engineering Manager within our PBM Plus Technology Organization. Within this role we will ask you to cultivate an empowered team of high performing engineers who are deeply passionate about building quality software products. You will foster ongoing agile engineering transformation and continuous improvement throughout the organization, advocating for common engineering patterns, efficiency, quality, resiliency, security and performance.

The Software Engineering Manager owns the output of a single work area within engineering, responsible for leading team, driving the development and delivery of high-quality software products and services using technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, SQL / NoSQL databases, and deploying them on public (AWS) or on-prem cloud environments. This role utilizes in-depth professional knowledge but is guided by functional practices and focuses on implementing and executing strategies within own department/discipline/team. This role requires building strong matrix relationships with business partners, peer engineering teams, architects, infrastructure engineers, and our global partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a fast-moving agile team, collaborating with architects and lead engineers to design and implement scalable, maintainable, and robust software solutions using tools and technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, SQL/NoSQL databases, Jenkins, GitHub, and AWS services.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the engineering team, ensuring best practices and coding standards are followed.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and problem-solving sessions.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, frameworks, and industry trends, and evaluate their potential impact and adoption.
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard talented software engineers, fostering a diverse and inclusive team.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to align development efforts with business objectives.
  • Foster innovation and diversity of thought by encouraging team members to explore new technologies and propose solutions to complex business problems.
  • Support other product delivery partners in the successful build, test, and release of solutions.
  • Provides thought leadership and technical expertise across the PBM technology organization.
  • Utilize end-to-end knowledge of product ecosystem, business transactions, technology stack, dependencies, and engineering practices to ensure applications are designed and constructed using solid engineering patterns.
  • Takes accountability for the technology assets owned by the team.

Qualifications:

Required Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong influencing / negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal / relationship management skills.
  • Strong time and project management skills.
  • Familiarity with agile methodology including SCRUM team leadership.
  • Familiarity with modern delivery practices such as continuous integration, behavior / test driven development, and specification by example.
  • Hands on experience with Java, Spring Boot, GitHub, OpenShift, Kafka, NoSQL, AWS, and AWS Serverless services
  • Solid understanding of OOP, Design Patterns and Data Structures
  • Experience in building REST APIs/Microservices
  • Strong understanding of parallel processing, concurrency and asynchronous concepts
  • Experience with NoSQL databases like MongoDB, PostgreSQL and/or AWS DynamoDB.
  • Proficient in working with the SAM (Serverless Application Model) framework, with a strong command of Lambda functions.
  • Proficient in internal integration within AWS ecosystem using Lambda functions, leveraging services such as Event Bridge, S3, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB and others.
  • CI/CD experience: must have GitHub experience.

Required Experience & Education:

  • 8+ years of professional experience including people leader experience.
  • Must have a bachelors degree in computer science or relevant engineering degree.
  • Proven experience leading / managing technical teams with a passion for developing the talent within the team.
  • Experience with vendor management in an onshore / offshore model.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.

Preferred:

  • Industry certifications such AWS Solutions Architect, TOGAF, ITIL
