About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Developer with strong experience in PHP, WordPress, and Shopify to join our team from Kolkata. You’ll be responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing high-performing web applications and ecommerce experiences.

You should be comfortable working across multiple platforms, picking up new tools quickly, and using AI tools (ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, etc.) to speed up development, debugging, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect, develop, and maintain backend features using PHP (modern practices, OOP, MVC).
  • Build, customize, and optimize WordPress themes and plugins (including custom post types, hooks, filters, REST API).
  • Develop and customize Shopify stores (Liquid, theme customization, app integrations).
  • Integrate third-party APIs and services (payment gateways, marketing tools, CRM, etc.).
  • Write clean, secure, scalable, and well-documented code.
  • Use AI tools to:
  • Speed up coding and refactoring
  • Generate boilerplate code and tests
  • Assist in debugging and research
  • Collaborate with frontend devs, designers, and product managers to deliver complete features.
  • Optimize performance, security, and reliability across platforms.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement long-term fixes.
  • Stay updated with new technologies, frameworks, and best practices, and be ready to adopt new platforms when needed.
Must-Have Skills & Experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience in backend development.
  • Strong PHP skills, including OOP and modern PHP standards.
  • Deep experience with WordPress:
  • Custom theme and plugin development
  • Hooks, filters, template hierarchy
  • WP REST API, custom post types, taxonomies
  • Strong experience with Shopify:
  • Liquid templates
  • Theme customization
  • App integrations and basic app development
  • Solid JavaScript skills:
  • Strong grasp of vanilla JS
  • Experience with at least one modern frontend framework (React, Vue, or similar) is a plus.
  • Comfortable using AI tools in your workflow (for code generation, refactoring, documentation, testing, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, and JSON.
  • Experience with Git and collaborative workflows (branches, PRs, code reviews).
  • Experience working with databases (MySQL or similar) and writing efficient queries.
  • Familiarity with security best practices (XSS, CSRF, SQL injection prevention).
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment with deadlines.
Nice-to-Have
  • Experience with Shopify app development.
  • Familiarity with headless WordPress or headless Shopify.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
  • Basic DevOps knowledge (Linux servers, Nginx/Apache, caching, etc.).
  • Experience working with page speed optimization tools and techniques.
  • Prior experience in an agency or product environment handling multiple projects.
