ResponsibilitiesExceptional Customer Service:Friendly & Welcoming Demeanour: Creating a positive and inviting atmosphere for guests.Active Listening: Understanding customer preferences and making appropriate recommendations.Engaging Communication: Being personable, approachable, and able to engage in conversation while maintaining professionalism.Problem-Solving & Complaint Resolution: Handling guest complaints or difficult situations (e.g., intoxicated patrons) with tact, diplomacy, and composure.Memory: Remembering drink orders, regular customers' preferences, and various recipes.Multitasking: Juggling multiple orders, preparing drinks, taking payments, and interacting with customers simultaneously.Time Management: Prioritising tasks and managing time effectively to ensure efficient service.Attention to Detail: Ensuring every drink is prepared to standard, the bar is immaculate, and orders are accurate.Physical Stamina: The job requires long periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting (e.g., liquor bottles, kegs).Teamwork: Collaborating effectively with servers, kitchen staff, and management for a smooth overall operation.Calmness Under Pressure: Maintaining composure and professionalism during busy and stressful shifts.Responsible & Ethical Conduct: Adhering to all laws and regulations, particularly concerning alcohol service, and acting with integrity.Sales Skills: Ability to up sell, cross-sell, and recommend specials to enhance the customer experience and increase revenue.Adaptability: Adjusting to different customer types, unexpected situations, and changing demands.A successful bartender is more than just someone who mixes drinks; they are an integral part of the restaurant's guest experience, contributing significantly to its atmosphere and reputation.QualificationsHigh School Diploma or Equivalent: This is typically the minimum educational requirement.Bar tending School/Mixology Courses: While not always strictly required, completing a reputable bar-tending course or mixology program provides a strong foundation in drink preparation, recipes, and bar operations.Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Certification: This is crucial and often legally mandated. In India, depending on the state or union territory, there might be specific licensing or certification requirements for serving alcohol. Bartenders must understand and adhere to local laws regarding age verification, preventing over-intoxication, and refusing service when necessary.Food Hygiene/Safety Certificate: Knowledge of and adherence to food safety and hygiene standards is important for maintaining a clean bar and safe drink preparation.Core Bar tending Skills (Hard Skills):Mixology Proficiency:Extensive Drink Knowledge: A deep understanding of classic cocktails, popular mixed drinks, spirits, liqueurs, wines, beers, and non-alcoholic beverages.Recipe Adherence & Creativity: Ability to accurately follow established recipes and, for more advanced roles, create new and innovative cocktails (mixology).Pouring & Measuring: Precise free-pouring or jigger-based measuring to ensure consistency and control costs.Garnishing & Presentation: Skilful garnishing and aesthetically pleasing presentation of drinks.Understanding Flavour Profiles: Knowledge of how different ingredients and spirits blend to create balanced flavours.Bar Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Proficiency in using and cleaning blenders, shakers, strainers, jiggers, ice machines, draft systems, coffee machines, etc.Cash Handling & POS Systems: Accurate handling of cash, credit card transactions, processing payments, and operating Point of Sale (POS) systems.Inventory Management (Basic): Understanding how to track stock, identify popular items, minimise waste, and assist with ordering supplies.Cleanliness & Organisation: Maintaining a sparkling clean bar area, glassware, and tools throughout the shift.Speed & Efficiency: Ability to work quickly and accurately, especially during peak hours, to serve multiple customers simultaneously without compromising quality.
