Job Title: Database Architect – PostgreSQL, Cloud, Banking Domain

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Database Architect with expertise in PostgreSQL, cloud-based database solutions, and deep domain knowledge in the banking industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing scalable, secure, and high-performance database architectures that support critical banking applications. This role requires a strategic thinker who can bridge business needs with technical excellence, ensuring compliance, performance, and resilience in a regulated financial environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and lead the implementation of enterprise-grade PostgreSQL database architectures for cloud and hybrid environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Develop and enforce database standards, best practices, and governance policies aligned with banking regulations (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS, SOX).
  • Architect high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and backup strategies for mission-critical banking systems.
  • Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, partitioning, and replication strategies.
  • Lead database migration projects from on-premises to cloud platforms, including data modeling, schema design, and zero-downtime cutover planning.
  • Implement and manage database security controls, including encryption (at rest and in transit), role-based access control (RBAC), auditing, and data masking.
  • Collaborate with application teams, DevOps, and security teams to integrate database solutions into CI/CD pipelines using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
  • Provide technical leadership in database capacity planning, scalability, and cost optimization.
  • Mentor and guide database administrators (DBAs) and developers on database design, performance, and security.
  • Stay current with emerging database technologies, cloud innovations, and financial industry compliance trends.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in database architecture, with 5+ years focused on PostgreSQL and cloud platforms.
  • Proven experience in designing and managing large-scale, high-availability PostgreSQL deployments in production environments.
  • Strong expertise in cloud database services (AWS RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Google Cloud SQL).
  • In-depth knowledge of database security, compliance, and auditing in regulated industries, particularly banking and finance.
  • Experience with database automation, DevOps practices, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Familiarity with financial systems such as core banking, payment processing, risk management, and transactional databases.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, normalization, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with database monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) for database deployment.
  • Certifications: PostgreSQL Certified Professional (PCP), AWS Certified Database – Specialty, Azure Data Engineer Associate, or similar.
  • Experience with database virtualization, replication, and sharding strategies.
